Bartholomew was the pageboy of the Kingdom of Didd and was also a close friend of the King's.

The King was angry with the sky because it only produced snow, rain, sunshine, and fog. He was tired of these "old things" and was desperate to have something new come down.

In the end, the King was reluctant to admit his wrongdoing, but thanks to Bartholomew's words the King burst into tears and admitted how wrong he was and even apologized for it all. Because of this, the kingdom was freed from the horrible curse and life in Didd returned to normal.
