Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What color was everything in Kansas where Dorothy lived?

Answer: Gray

Aunt Em was supposedly once very pretty, but all of the gray made her somber and serious.
2. Which of the following was NOT a feature that Dorothy noticed at once of the Land of the Munchkins?

Answer: Waterfalls

There were so many gorgeous birds, 'stately trees bearing luscious fruits' and lots of flowers everywhere, that Dorothy liked it a lot.
3. On the yellow brick road, the Scarecrow tells Dorothy his story. What color did he say his eyes were painted?

Answer: Blue

The farmer who painted him chose blue because blue is the color of the Munchkins.
4. Scarecrow and Dorothy found the Tin Woodman between some what?

Answer: trees

He alerted them of his presence by giving a loud groan.
5. Who is saved from a wildcat by the Woodman after the three friends have traveled a long way and have met the Lion?

Answer: The Queen of Mice

Later on, she and her band save the Lion from a field of deadly poppies!
6. In the City of Emeralds, what does Dorothy see Oz as?

Answer: A great head

Each friend saw a different 'Oz'. They were all expecting to see the one that the others had seen. (You'd think that by the fourth one of them, they'd know that each Oz was different?)
7. Which of these was the Witch of the West afraid of?

Answer: Dark

That's how Dorothy's silver shoes stayed safe from the witch; she only took them off in the night, when it was dark--and the witch couldn't touch them then.
8. Who are the fearsome creatures whose heads shoot out to destroy all in their path?

Answer: The Hammerheads

Over the hill of the Hammerheads, who are easily defeated when Dorothy summons the Winged Monkeys, lies the porcelain county.
9. According to the porcelain princess in the porcelain town, who has been broken too many times?

Answer: Mr. Joker

Mr. Joker's a clown who was probably a few camels short of a caravan to begin with. It didn't help that his porcelain shell was very much broken and dented. This becomes very obvious as he recites this rather rude rhyme to Dorothy: 'My lady fair Why do you stare At poor old Mr. Joker? You're quite as stiff And prim as if You'd eaten up a poker!'
10. The Quadlings of the South are scarlet-colored. They are the subjects of Glinda, the good witch who shows Dorothy how to get home. How are they described in the book?

Answer: A friendly, agreeable people

The Quadlings are probably so happy because they have a kind and beautiful ruler. They make sure that Dorothy, the Tin Woodman, the Lion, the Scarecrow, and, of course, Toto, are well taken-care of on their trip to see Glinda through their country. Thanks for playing my quiz, I hope you had fun! Don't forget: There's no place like home!
