Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The tanker driver had to face court on what charge?

Answer: Fuelish behaviour

The pun here is on "fuelish" for "foolish" behaviour, something that tanker drivers in particular should never ever attempt to carry out while in control of their huge and dangerous vehicles.
2. How did the cowboy in charge of taking tourists for elephant rides greet his customers?

Answer: Howdah

The pun here is on the use of "Howdah" for "Howdy", a word usually associated with rootin' tootin' cowboys. A howdah is a carriage fastened onto the back of elephants, one that is used for carrying passengers.
3. When Hamlet burned the chicken dinner, what did he cry?

Answer: Murder most fowl

Here the pun is between the words "Fowl", a synonym for a chicken, and "Foul" a word describing something dastardly. The saying "Murder most foul" is from Shakespeare's play "Hamlet", a work about the to and fro struggle in the mind of Denmark's troubled prince. It is spoken by the ghost of his murdered father when revealing his murder to his son.
4. Perhaps Japanese girls address Italian men in which manner?

Answer: Parme san

"San" is an honorific suffix used by the Japanese when addressing various people. Parmesan is a cheese used to sprinkle on various Italian foods. Other foods as well of course, but associated most with Italian dishes, and in particular, perhaps, spaghetti Bolognese. The word play is on "Parme" for the cheese and "San" the polite form of Japanese address.
5. For which political office did the stallion run?

Answer: Mayor

The pun is on the word "Mayor", the highest ranked official on a city council, and on "Mare", a female horse, after which many a hopeful stallion has chased.
6. What did Captain Hook cry when he was slipping off a ladder?

Answer: Give me a hand

Peter Pan, that eternal youth, and his arch-enemy, Captain Hook, are tales to delight the hearts of children of all ages. Captain Hook, of course, has a hand missing from an earlier encounter with a crocodile. Falling off a ladder then, he'd really need an extra hand to steady himself.
7. What sounds do dogs make on board a ship?

Answer: Bow prow

Dogs of course are usually associated with the sound "bow wow" when barking. On board a ship, however, with it prow and bow, they'd most definitely have to incorporate both in their vocalisations. The thought occurs that any cat that tried to bury its mess while on board a ship, would probably drown.
8. The public speaker who was having a baby was noted for what oratory skill?

Answer: Pregnant pauses

A woman expecting a baby is described as being pregnant. A pregnant pause in conversation or speech is one that has the purpose of giving an audience time to think about something a speaker has said, or one that is loaded with significance. The pun is on the use of the word pregnant.
9. What mistake was made by the stuttering ghost?

Answer: A boo boo

"Boo" is a sound associated with ghost when scaring their victims. Those people who are unfortunate enough to suffer from a stutter are inclined to repeat the same word or syllable several times before managing to get it out successfully. A traumatic condition, more so than non-stutterers realise, it take a great deal of time and effort to overcome this affliction.
10. After Ben Hur had a gender reassignment, what did he call himself?

Answer: Ben Her

A gender reassignment is a long and painful process whereby one sex, through multiple drugs and surgery, is transformed into the one he or she most identifies with. A man becomes and woman or a woman becomes a man, in other words. "Ben Hur: A tale of the Christ" is an 1880 work by author Lew Wallace. It has since been into a play and several film adaptations. How on earth would they get that famous chariot race on a stage in a theatre? Perhaps they ran around the stage whinnying instead.
