Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did the headlines scream when the Englishman's car brakes failed?

Answer: Thames the brakes

The Thames is London's major river system. This beautiful gracious waterway is as much a part of England as the English themselves and has played a large part for hundreds of years in the development of London as a centre of world trade.
2. What did it say on the bald man's tombstone?

Answer: Hair today gone tomorrow

Baldness in men is known as alopecia. It can be hereditary, trauma, compulsive tugging at the hair or caused by an autoimmune disorder. Human beings have approximately 150,000 strands of hair on their heads. Baldness can sometimes prove very distressing for those who have it.

They feel the external image they portray is less than the ideal image they would prefer, and they will sometimes go to great lengths to disguise the fact that baldness is simply another part of their lovely selves.
3. What reputation does Hannibal Lecter's mailman have?

Answer: He always delivers

Hannibal Lecter is the main character around which the 1991 film "The Silence of the Lambs" revolves. This film was based on the 1988 novel by Thomas Harris. Hannibal is one of literature's most complex characters, oddly sympathetic at times, but totally ghastly at others. Starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, the story is that of an FBI agent trying to solve a series of gruesome murders by one Buffalo Bill.

In order to do so, she enlists the help of Hannibal Lecter, a once brilliant psychiatrist who is now permanently locked away for his series of cannibalistic killings.

He liked to invites old friends "around for dinner", with their providing the main course - literally.
4. The singer who lives next door has a very cruel relative. Who is she?

Answer: Auntie Mame

"Auntie Mame" is an excellent musical which tells of a young orphaned boy brought up by his very eccentric but immensely entertaining Aunt Mame, who takes the boy along with her all over the world and exposes him to a wealth of life's experiences. It is periodically revived on stage and proved to be perennially entertaining, and has been made twice into a film, once in 1947 (starring Rosalind Russell) and again in 1974 (starring Lucille Ball). All productions are based on the 1955 novel by Patrick Dennis.
5. What is a sadistic ectoplasm from Budapest?

Answer: Hungarian goulash

Ectoplasm is supposed to be the calling card of ghostly visitations, if you believe in that sort of thing. Me, I prefer not to scare myself silly with wild imaginings. Hungarian goulash is a kind of stew, packed full of yummy meat, noodles, vegetables and spices. It is looked upon as the national dish of that lovely country.
6. What was the reaction of the Egyptian man when accused of murder?

Answer: Absolute denial

The Nile, the longest river in the world (though fiercely contested for that honour by the Amazon) is the life blood of the country of Egypt. It commences its long journey of 4,258 miles (6,853 kilometres) in Central Africa, is met by the Blue Nile near Sudan, flows past the capital city of Cairo, and finally empties its life-giving waters near Alexandria, into the Mediterranean Sea.
7. What was the name of the generous spinster?

Answer: Misgiving

A spinster is an unmarried woman. Misgivings are doubts about the fitness of any particular action, but in this case it's a pun on the word "Miss" which is often a title given to these charming ladies who have chosen to forsake the demanding life of the married woman for a life of ease and contentment instead in blissful singleness.
8. What did the owners call their deep sea casino?

Answer: Fish and Chips

Chips are small various coloured tokens used in gambling centres. They are used to represent various sums of money during the betting process, and can afterwards, if one has been lucky enough to win, be cashed at the desk for the real thing.
9. Which medical specialist operates on sick fish?

Answer: Sturgeon

A sturgeon, which has been used as a play upon the word surgeon, is one of twenty-five different fish belonging to the Acipenseridae family. Are you any the wiser? I'm not. They are a bony fish, with few scales, and some can grow to enormous size, up to twelve to eighteen feet long in fact. Wow! This freshwater fish is not only eaten on the dinner table - on VERY large plates - it is harvested for its roe.

This product is made into caviar, a luxury, ghastly tasting treat, for the rich and famous. Thank goodness for poverty I say.
10. What sound does a clergyman make when he sneezes?

Answer: A pew a pew

A-choo, a-choo to you too, my friends. That is a word commonly used to portray a sneeze in works of literature or cartoons. I hope you enjoyed the quiz and "Bless You!"
