Rock Salt is Halite
Rock salt is the name of a sedimentary rock that consists almost entirely of halite, a mineral composed of sodium chloride, NaCl.

Saltpetre / saltpeter, on the other hand, is a nitrate compound, not a chloride. The name may refer to sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate or calcium nitrate; usually, if there is no qualification added, it is potassium nitrate.
