In recent years the Dakar Rally was held in Saudi Arabia. When was the last time it was actually held in Dakar?

As much as I hate to use Wikipedia for this, it was the only answer I could find. It appears that the last time the race officially started in Dakar was in 2000. The race began in Dakar and ended in Cairo. This particular event was notable due to a 5 day suspension due to political/terrorist threat issues that were taking place for the Niamey, Niger to Sabha, Libya leg of the race.

As shown at the link in the first post, it was originally known as the Paris-Dakar Rally, then just the Dakar.

The event started since the inception in 1978 as rally staged from Paris, France, to Dakar, Senegal (hence its name), across several African countries. Between 1992 and 2007 some editions didn't start in Paris or didn't arrive in Dakar, but the event kept its name. Security threats in Mauritania led to the cancellation of the 2008 rally, and events from 2009 to 2019 were held in South America. Since 2020, the rally has been held in Saudi Arabia.
