5.1 "Held Back" Trivia Quiz

The episode began at Highland High School where Mr. Buzzcut was instructing the students on some math problems and he asked them if they knew the square root of nine. Multiple students raised their hands but he went to Beavis to Butt-head to ask if they knew the answer. The two rattled off a bunch of numbers but none were remotely close.

After Beavis and Butt-head were unable to answer the simple mathematical operation of the square root of nine, Mr. Buzzcut brought them to Principal McVicker's office. He decided that they had difficulty in all subjects and it was clear they needed to be held back one grade.

As Principal McVicker mentioned them being in the ninth grade, he arranged for them to be placed in an eighth grade classroom.

Answer: Wilson

Principal McVicker contacted the principal at Wilson Elementary School to have Beavis and Butt-head placed there. While we did not hear this phone call, it was clearly made since the following scene had Beavis and Butt-head in the eighth grade. The principal of Wilson Elementary School, however, did make an appearance near the end of the episode.

Once Principal McVicker made the decision to send the boys back a grade, Butt-head first asked what grade that would then put them in with this move. Beavis then followed up by asking Principal McVicker if they would be in college. However, Principal McVicker did not answer their questions.

During a math lesson in the eighth grade, the teacher was going over factoring while the boys wondered why they had to go back a grade to get to college. Butt-head leaned over to a nearby girl to ask her if she had ever been with an older man. She called him a bad name and asked that he leave her alone. Beavis repeated the insulting remark so Butt-head punched him and the two began to fight.

After Beavis and Butt-head were unable to do well in the eighth grade as well as others, they were repeatedly held back. They were seen in a third grade classroom where their obviously bigger bodies had difficulty fitting comfortably into the small desks.

As they struggled, the instructor asked them to answer the question of, "What is four plus five?", but neither one could answer correctly. This caused them to be held all the way back into kindergarten.

The kindergarten instructor completed a children's tale about two bears and then concluded the story by reading off a phrase that had the number one on it. Butt-head became upset so the teacher asked if he was upset. He said he was upset with numbers and Beavis joined in, saying "there's like too many of them and stuff".

The teacher told the students that they would move onto coloring and all of them cheered, including Beavis, but Butt-head told him that it stunk. The children were all coloring in their books at various tables. Beavis and Butt-head were also shown writing several words across their coloring books' pages.

Midway through the coloring, the kindergarten teacher arrived with some cookies and juice and asked if the kids wanted them. Beavis and Butt-head got up and grabbed numerous cookies. They spit them out due to disliking the taste and then asked her if she had nachos.

The teacher said she did not and also claimed she hated spitting since it spread germs. Just then, Beavis spat everywhere and pretty soon the entire class spat at one another.

The kindergarten teacher brought the duo to the principal's office over the spitting incident and threatened to quit unless he took them out of her class. He pondered some options, such as sending them to pre-school, but realized that would not be good since then they would come back through the elementary school.

He then decided he would send them back to Highland High School and claim that "they were not reaching them". In the final scene, the two principals argued over them and the one from Wilson Elementary School said they graduated them early but would not take them back. Principal McVicker realized he had no choice but to let them back into Highland High School.
