6th December 1976 - Anglia Television refuse to continue showing the Thames series 'Paulines Quirkes', because of its language and sexual innuendo. The series, starring Pauline Quirke (later to star in Birds of a Feather), also features a resident pop group 'Flintlock'.
The Tomorrow People followed the adventures of a group of ordinary kids who turned out to be extraordinary, discovering their latent powers of telepathy, teleportation, intelligence and strength as they reached their teens, in a painful process known as 'breaking out'. These teenie super beings were the next step in human evolution: 'Homo Superior' (Bowie lyric). The show's creator Roger Price came up with the idea after meeting David Bowie.
In 1976 Price shrewdly cast Mike Holoway as, er, Mike. Holoway was the drummer with much-hyped teen pop sensations Flintlock and his appointment was Price's conscious attempt to give Britain its own David Cassidy. Flintlock even appeared in the two-part adventure 'Heart of Sogguth', coming across like the Charlatans doing Pilot covers.
Flintlock got to no. 30 (in the UK singles top 40) on 19TH JUNE 1976 with 'DAWN'. Mike Holloway from the Tomorrow People was a group member. It was their only hit but they did release a better single titled 'Sea Of Flames'.
FLINTLOCK were Derek Pascoe (Vocals), Mike Holloway (Drums), Jamie Stone, John Summerton and Bill Rice. Apparently Flintlock, Mike Holloway's band, decided to split after seeing the Sex Pistols being interviewed by Bill Grundy on Thames' 'Today' show.
