From 1976 to 1985, Linda Lavin starred in a television show called "Alice". This show was based on the movie "Alice Doesn't live Here Anymore".
"There's a New Girl in Town" was the theme song of the show, sung by Linda Lavin.
The lyrics were altered a few times over the show's run.
The show's theme centered on Alice (Lavin) and her life as a single mother who ends up in Phoenix, working in Mel's diner. The show had a spinoff, "Flo", starring Polly Holliday . Flo's catchphrase on "Alice", "Kiss my grits!" became immensely popular. (Apparently since the ending of the shows, Polly Holliday has not spoken this phrase!)
If you have one minute and 18 seconds to spare, here is the clip of the opening credits from season one, and Linda Laving singing the theme song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezC1X-45uWA
