I should know this but have forgotten, who said "Life's a bitch and then you die" or something similar?

Frank Butcher, a character in Eastenders played by Mike Reid came out with an alternative: -
"Life's a bitch..... and then you marry one".
I think that it and any of the many variations were in existence long before he came out with it.

I don't know who said that but in "Batman Returns" Catwoman says "Life's a bitch and now so am I"

Tommy Boyd used to play the song on every programme 'Life's gonna suck when you grow up', which ends 'and then you're gonna die'.
This sounds like it was based on your quote as well, but I don't know who said it first, or whether a person was actually recorded as having said it first. But I doubt it was from the bible...

According to "The Yale Book of Quotations", this quotation first appeared in the "Washington Post" in 1982.
