Per The Guinness Book of Records:
A tabby named Puss, owned by Mrs. T. Holway of Clyhidon, Great Britain, reportedly celebrated his 36th birthday on Nov 28, 1939 and died the next day, but conclusive evidence is lacking. The oldest reliably recorded cat was the female tabby Ma, owned by Alice St. George Moore of Drewsteignton, Great Britain. This cat was put to sleep on Nov 5, 1957 at the age of 34. The average life expectancy of cats is 13-17 years.

The average life expectancy of an indoor cat is between 9 to 15 years. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the oldest living cat is a Burmese called Kataleena Lady who lives in Melbourne, Australia. Kataleena Lady was born on March 11th, 1977.

The oldest living cat is Creme Puff of Austin Texas. Born on August 3rd 1967, Creme Puff celebrated her 38th birthday in August 2005.

Also deserving a mention are: Puss, who was born in 1903. Puss was owned by Mrs T. Holway of Devon. Puss passed away on 29th November, 1939, one day after his 36th birthday. The second is Granpa who lived to the ripe old age of 34. Granpa Rexs Allen (Granpa for short) was a Sphyx adopted from the Humane Society in Texas .

Good genetics, good general care, good health care, good diet and a safe environment are all important in longevity of your cat. Domestic neutered cats usually live up to 14 years and wild cats 6-8 years.

In 1972 a Scotsman in Dumfriesshire claimed that his cat had celebrated his 43rd birthday, but when approached to verify his claim the Scotsman said that the cat had just been run over by a train.

To be a Guinness world record, the owners need to provide proof of their cat's age. E.g., continuous veterinary care over his lifetime.

As cats have relatively short lives, the answer to the world's oldest (living) cat is going to change frequently. For example, a cat named Scooter overtook Corduroy (mentioned above) but died soon after.
link http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3590434/World-s-oldest-living-cat-Scooter-revealed-Guinness-World-Record-holder-week-died-age-30.html

An article from this past December suggests that Corduroy is likely dead after having run off at such an old age, and I cannot at the moment find who is currently recognized as the oldest cat.
