According to a post on this Swedish message board, it is a compliment to the chef if you burp in Sweden.

I think it's regarded as a compliment in a lot of eastern cultures

However, saying that burping is a compliment to the chef is an excuse that is used worldwide!

Some old movie has the star finally realizing his Bedouin host is waiting to hear him burp. Seemed like it was Kirk Douglas, but I can't find that, or even Peter O'Toole in "Lawrence of Arabia," but I can't find that either.
