When I was a boy (in England) it was the Cubs, rather than the full blown Scouts, who had this motto.

No longer part of Cub ceremony. At Grand Howl, a designated Cub says, 'Cubs, do your best', and the rest of the Cubs mutter or shout 'We will do our best'. Most of them have never heard of dyb or dob - yet outsiders all have.
I would like to refer to the following as still being used in the Australian scouting movement (of which cubs are a part of), that the terminology as well as "Arkela" for cub leader are still used.
