The executioner wants Wallace to ask for mercy. Hamish, Steven and the Bruce are all there and each are whispering for mercy also. They had just witnessed Wallace being stretched on the rack and hung by the neck until almost dead. Wallace is given one last chance for a quick death before being disemboweled.

Answer: The battle of Bannockburn

The Battle of Bannockburn was a decisive battle in the first war of Scottish independence. The battle was after the execution of Wallace and was led by Robert the Bruce.

Answer: To plead that he beg the king for mercy and to give him a numbing concoction

After Princess Isabella's plea, William agreed to take the concoction but would not agree to beg the king for anything. After a kiss goodbye, William spit the concoction out, as he needed his "wits" during the torture.

Answer: Murron

Murron was of course his wife, and sparked his quest for freedom. So naturally the last thing he saw before his death was Murron, which gave him the courage to continue on, and die with honor.

Often seen as one of Scotland's greatest heroes, although not portrayed that way in this movie, Robert the Bruce became King of Scotland.

The real William Wallace's wife was called Marion. They probably thought it sounded too 'Robin Hood' for the film.

Longshanks reinstituted the practice, saying 'The trouble with Scotland is that it's full of Scots. Perhaps the time has come to reinstitute an old custom. Grant them prima nocte: first night. When any common girl inhabiting their lands is married, our nobles shall have sexual rights to her on the night of her wedding. If we can't get them out, we'll breed them out. That should fetch just the kind of lords we want to Scotland, taxes or no taxes.'

Stephen was the Irish man who joined them in order to get 'a chance to kill Englishmen'. Stephen: 'Stephen is my name. I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.' Hamish: 'Your island? You mean Ireland.' Stephen: 'Yeah. It's mine.' Hamish: 'You're a madman.' Stephen: 'I've come to the right place, then.'
