Goldblum played Dr. Ian Malcolm in "Jurassic Park". Ian was first seen on a helicopter when John, Ellie, and Alan were flying to Jurassic Park. He asked John and Ellie if they dug up dinosaur bones and they said they did and spoke to Ian about their research. When the t-rex broke out of its exhibit, Ian tried to get it go away by using a flare but the t-rex charged at him. Ian was not killed, when the t-rex did this but he was seriously injured. Ellie and someone else came on the scene and rescued Ian and took him back to the visitor's center. At the end of the movie, Ian was seen in a cast boarding the helicopter to leave Jurassic Park. Goldblum reprised his role of Dr. Ian Malcolm in the movie, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park". He was also seen in the film "Independence Day". He lent his voice to a role in the movie, "Cats and Dogs".

During the video Hammond shows near the beginning of the film, Mr. DNA explains what happens. A mosquito bites a dinosaur, flies away, lands on a tree and the tree sap slowly covers it. It takes a long time for the sap to become hard amber and scientists in the park carefully take the dinosaur blood out of the mosquito's body. They film says the DNA has 'gaps' in it. The scientists replace the gaps with frog DNA.

The significance of this quote is the reality of the movie. That reality is, that you cannot control nature, and once you bring back a dominate species, they will do whatever they can to dominate. 'Welcome to Jurassic Park' is John Hammond's tag line. 'Live the Adventure' is the tag-line to the Universal Studios ride. Finally, 'An Adventure 65 Million Years in the Making' is the tag line for the movie itself.

Alan Grant does not have a strong connection with kids, but he is seen taking care of Tim and Lex much of the time. He grows to be very responsible with them, and tries hard to keep them safe. He throws away his velociraptor claw when he is in the tree with the kids.

Alan is persuaded to go to Jurassic Park when John Hammond visits him in Montana. John tells Alan that he will fund his dig for the next three years.
