Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene, at the dig site in The Badlands, an annoying kid calls the velociraptor a '6-foot _____'?

Answer: turkey

After Grant explains the similarities between dinosaurs and birds the kid says "That doesn't look very scary to me. More like a six-foot turkey."
2. When Lewis Dodgeson is first introduced, he is getting out of a cab. What inconsiderate thing does Dodgeson do?

Answer: Does not shut the door

Dodgeson is wearing a very comical outfit to try and blend in. Obviously nervous, he exits the cab and leaves the back door wide open. After walking away from the open door, the cabbie makes a very inappropriate gesture towards Dodgeson.
3. What does John Hammond think he has always been present for?

Answer: The birth of every dinosaur on the island

During the baby-raptor hatching scene Hammond exclaims, "I've been present for the birth of every creature on this island." Of course un-known to Hammond the dinosaurs are breeding in the wild.
4. How many humans get killed by dinosaurs in the movie?

Answer: 5

The gatekeeper at the beginning gets killed by a raptor, Gennero gets eaten by the T-Rex on the toilet, Nedry is killed in his car by a Spitter, Arnold is killed by a raptor in the maintenance shed, and Muldoon gets attacked by a raptor heading to the shed.
5. What does Muldoon say just prior to dying?

Answer: "Clever Girl!"

He says "Clever girl" as soon as he knows he has been out-witted by two raptors on his way to the maintenance shed. This is a reference back to when Muldoon is talking to Grant about the intelligence of the alpha female raptor.
6. Just after the Jeep tour begins, Hammond confronts Nedry in the control room about all the computer problems. What does Nedry say in response to Hammond's lecture about work ethics?

Answer: "Thanks Dad."

Hammond is clearly upset at the number of bugs in Jurassic Park's computers and accuses Nedry of having 'Butter-fingers'. Hammond ends the conversation by stating "I don't blame people for their mistakes, but I do ask that they pay for them."
Nedry's response: "Thanks Dad." Nedry's dissatisfaction with his job is what ultimately makes him sell the embryos to Dodgeson.
7. While riding in the Jeeps on the tour, Ian Malcolm points out the fact that all the dinosaurs have been no-shows. He says to John Hammond, via the jeep's camera: "Now eventually you will have dinosaurs on your dinosaur tour? Right?" What was Hammond's response?

Answer: "I really hate that man."

Hammonds dislike for Malcolm is apparent throughout the whole movie. He calls Malcolm a 'rock-star' on the journey to the island. Hammond is flabbergasted that Malcolm would call his theme park a "rape of the natural world". The absence of dinosaurs on the tour opens another opportunity for Malcolm to pick on Hammond.
8. Grant, Lex, and Tim are forced to cross Jurassic Park on foot after the tour was attacked. At one point they must climb over a de-electrified fence to continue. When Lex, Tim, and Grant are climbing the electric fence Lex bets Tim she can beat him over it. Tim asks what he will get if he wins. What is it that Lex says?

Answer: "Respect"

Lex knows that Tim has a fear of heights, and being the older sibling, she tries to encourage him over.
9. What does it say on the banner that floats down at the very end of the movie as the T-Rex roars?

Answer: When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth

You can read 'When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth' when Hammond leads the group into the Visitor Center for the first time. It is also readable when it flutters down during the T-rex's triumphant roar. The significance of this quote is the reality of the movie. That reality is, that you cannot control nature, and once you bring back a dominate species, they will do whatever they can to dominate. 'Welcome to Jurassic Park' is John Hammond's tag line. 'Live the Adventure' is the tag-line to the Universal Studios ride. Finally, 'An Adventure 65 Million Years in the Making' is the tag line for the movie itself.
10. While riding in the jeep Ian Malcolm explains Chaos Theory to Ellie, with the butterfly effect. He says 'If a butterfly flaps it's wings in ______, in _______ you get rain instead of sunshine." What two places does he mention?

Answer: Beijing, Central Park

This example of a butterfly moving air in Beijing, and thus effecting the weather in Central Park, is an example of how small changes vastly effect an outcome. This explanation goes over Ellie's head, so he tries using a drop of water on her hand. In Jurassic Park, Hammond is trying to control too many variables.

The sex of the dinos, the enclosures, the rides, the computers, the guests, his staff, and so on. If each of these variables has slight changes, then predicting the outcome is impossible; that's Chaos Theory.

As Malcolm tries to explain earlier, trying to have too much control leads to disarray. No man can control everything, especially an extinct ecosystem that, as Ellie puts it, "we know nothing about."
