Greta Gerwig's 'Little Women' does not have a linear narrative; instead, it starts when the March sisters are adults and Jo is in New York, where she is working as a teacher, and goes back and forth between the past and the present. At the beginning of the film, Jo is visiting Mr Dashwood, her editor, and sells a story to him. He criticises her prose and says she will be paid less than a man, but accepts the story. Jo offers to send in more of her work She later goes back to the family home in Massachusetts when she receives a letter saying her sister Beth is seriously ill.

"The Pickwick Society" newspaper is shown for the first time when the girls are acting as men in the attic. Play acting in the attic is their way of having a good time in the Civil War era. Because of the war they are now poor. For the March family, new shoes are not a luxury they can afford to squander money upon.

She is the one who goes to France with Great Aunt March to study painting and art. Mr. Tutman is the name Beth is given in the Pickwick Society and Mr. Winkle is the name Amy is given. Mr. Snodgrass is the name Jo is given in the Pickwick Society. Rodrigo is the character that Amy is complaining about playing, which Laurie then portrays as part of his induction into their theatrical society.

Friedrich Bhaer (Gabriel Byrne) falls in love with Jo (Winona Ryder) while she is writing and teaching at the boarding house in New York. John Brooke (Eric Stoltz) is Theodore (A.K.A. Averill Watson and Fred Vaughan are the friends that Laurie brings home with him from Harvard the night that Mr. Laurence gives Beth his daughter's piano. This happens during Belle Gardiner's coming-out party, which is the first party the girls have to attend in the movie. Jo is trying to hide the back of her burnt dress and escape from a boy who is pursuing her when she accidentally backs into Laurie. Louisa May Alcott is the author of "Little Women", a novel which is based on the lives of Louisa and her own three sisters. Nell Watson is the name of the actress in the play that Laurie, John, Jo, and Meg attend.

Amy's mother becomes very enraged at this and writes a letter to the teacher, withdrawing Amy from his school. Jo is then put in charge of Amy's homeschooling, much to the dismay of both Amy and Jo!

She also got into an argument with another girl about slavery, a nod to the Alcott family's progressive views at the time.
