Answer: The Band
Filmed by Martin Scorsese in 1976 and released in 1978, "The Last Waltz" brought together many of The Band's musical influences as well as musicians they had played with. The Band started out playing with Ronnie Hawkins as the Hawks in the 1950s and backed up Bob Dylan in the 1960s (when they were referred to as "the band" and that became their name) before they went out on their own. Both Dylan and Hawkins as well as Neil Young, Eric Clapton and Muddy Waters--to name just a few, performed in the movie/concert. Answer: Rock Around the Clock
"Rock Around the Clock" is considered to be the first true rock and roll feature film, even though the song was used in the soundtrack of "Blackboard Jungle" the previous year. "Rock Around the Clock" is a fictional account of the discovery of rock and roll by a promoter when he visits a small town and finds Bill Haley and the Comets packing in the crowds. It was produced by Sam Katzman and directed by Fred F. Sears. Katzman went on to produce many Elvis Presley films in the sixties. Along with Bill Haley and His Comets the movie features DJ Alan Freed, The Platters and Freddie Bell and the Bellboys. The movie features nine performances by Haley but the song "Rock Around the Clock" is never heard in its entirety throughout the film. Little attention was paid to the song "Rock Around the Clock" when Bill Haley and the Comets first recorded it as the B side of "Thirteen Women" in 1954. Later in 1956 Bill Haley and His Comets headlined a sequel called "Don't Knock the Rock". "Rudy's Rock" is performed by Haley in the film. In 1961 Katzman produced "Twist Around the Clock" starring Chubby Checker. It is essentially a remake of "Rock Around the Clock".

"A Hard Day's Night" (1964) resulted in an Oscar nomination for Beatles' producer George Martin, but not for the Beatles themselves. There is actually little in the film that could be considered a true plot. But, it is the Beatles so you can safely assume that there are plenty of fans chasing the band throughout. The film follows the Fab Four as they travel to London to appear on a television show. Each of the band members has some individual adventure, including mistaken identity and a trip to jail. The soundtrack includes the title track plus "I Wanna Be Your Man", "All My Loving", and "Can't Buy Me Love". Wilfrid Brambell plays the part of Paul's grandfather and the film contains repeated comments about him being "very clean". This was a reference to Brambell having a role on British television in which he was commonly called a dirty old man.
