Answer: a scarlet thread hanging out the window
Joshua 2:18-23. Rahab and the spies made a deal: If Rahab's household were to exit the house and enter the streets by the time Israel raided Jericho, whatever happened to them wouldn't be their fault. If they staid inside the house along with Rahab, anything that happened to them would be their fault. The sign used to mark Rahab's house was the same scarlet thread used to help the spies escape Jericho.

Answer: 4
The king of Jerusalem joined forces with Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish and Debir king of Eglon. The five armies then went and attacked Gibeon. But the Gibeonites sent word to the Israelites asking for help and Israel came to their aid. This can be found in Joshua 10.

Answer: Gibeon
"On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord: in the presence of Israel: 'O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.' So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies." (Joshua 10:12-13, NIV)... "There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a man. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel."

Answer: Seek God's view on the matter
"The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord. Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath." (Joshua 9 v. 14-15)
The passage does not specify the means by which an answer might have come from God but the book of Samuel suggests that the most common ways were through dreams, prophetic utterances or use of the Urim and Thurrim (1 Samuel 26 v. 8). The Urim and Thurrim were two small objects (the Bible gives us no more information than that) that seem to have been used in situations when a simple "yes" or "no" answer was required.

Answer: seven
Joshua 6:3-5 "And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him." The "Veggie Tales" version of this story "Josh and the Giant Wall" is a great way to teach children. It's also fun for adults to watch.

Answer: What is Passover?
Joshua 5:10 Before they could celebrate this feast they had to circumcise all of those who hadn't been circumcised while they wandered in the wilderness. OUCH! When they ate of the food of the promised land the manna ceased.
From Quiz: Joshua Jeopardy
Answer: Caleb, son of Jephunneh
The quotation comes from verse 12 of Joshua's 14th chapter: "Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said" (New King James Version).
The back-story is as follows. Moses had sent 12 spies into Canaan to report on the situation there. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones to bring back a favourable report, but the Israelis followed the lead of the other 10 who said the task was impossible because of the Anakim (giants) that lived there in great, fortified cities. As a result of their faithlessness the Israelis were condemned to wander in the wilderness for 40 years until that generation had died out.
Joshua and Caleb survived, so when the land was being divided up, Caleb, by that time aged 85, reminded Joshua of what had happened and claimed the city of Kiriath Arba (Hebron) as his inheritance. In the words of Joshua 14, "And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel".

Answer: the captain of the host of the Lord
Joshua 5:13-15. He first told Joshua to remove his shoes because, like Moses, Joshua was standing on holy ground. The idea given to Joshua was to have the children of Israel walk around the city one time a day for six days. Then on the seventh day they would walk around the city seven times.
From Quiz: Jericho: Joshua, the Spies, and the Sin of Achan
Answer: The sun stood still
Joshua and his men attacked marched all night from their camp at Gilgal and took the allied forces by surprise. The LORD helped the Israelites by making large hailstones fall from the sky and, according to Joshua 10:11, more men died because of the hailstones then because of the swords of the Israelites. During the battle Joshua commanded the sun and moon to stand still, so God made them stop moving for about a full day. This can be found in Joshua 10.
