63 "For I am already being poured out like a drink offering." From which source is this illustration taken?
Answer: The Jewish system of sacrifice as described in the Old Testament

"For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." (2 Timothy 4 v. 6-8)

Paul is using the phrase as a euphemism for dying. Tradition has it that he was martyred in Rome during the reign of the Roman emperor Nero.

The instructions given in the Old Testament for drink offerings do not mention them being offered on their own but always in conjunction with another sacrifice. Paul probably wants us, therefore, to see his death in tandem with the death of Jesus. He also uses the phrase when writing to the Philippians:
"But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you" (Philippians 2 v. 17).
Your options: [ A reference to having to work for a bar owner if you couldn't pay your tab ] [ A superstitious ritual in Roman bars that was performed when a drink was spilt ] [ The Jewish system of sacrifice as described in the Old Testament ] [ A Greek belief that rain was the gods' way of offering the world a drink ]

65 According to his final message in I Timothy 6 (NIV), how long did Paul instruct Timothy to keep the instructions and commandments in God's Word?
Answer: until the return of Jesus Christ

Paul charged Timothy and fellow believers to keep the commandments of God until the reappearance and second coming of Jesus Christ.

"In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time-God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen" (I Timothy 6:13-16, NIV)

66 In II Timothy what are the circumstances behind Paul's writing of this letter?
Answer: Imprisonment in Rome

In II Timothy 2:9 he tells us that he is "chained like a criminal" and at 1:17 he says that as soon as Onesiphorus came to Rome, he searched hard for Paul until he found him. The earliest tradition of the Church is that II Timothy was written during Paul's final imprisonment in Rome and shortly before his execution.

67 According to 2 Timothy 4:1-5, what does Paul tell Timothy that people will do concerning their ears after a time? (King James Version)
Answer: turn them from the truth

In both verses 3 and 4 in this passage, Paul says that there will come a time when people will not "endure sound doctrine," and that they will "turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned to fables."

This is the sign of what is known as "apostasy", of people turning away from God, instead of toward Him and His healing power. In this passage, Paul implies that men will no longer even acknowledge that there IS a God; nor will they be able to hear any of His truth because of their own unbelief. (KJV)

68 What is Alexander's profession?
Answer: coppersmith

It says in II Timothy 4:14, "Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works."

Not much is known about Alexander. There are four other Alexanders mentioned in the Bible but they do not appear to be the same Alexander.

69 What kind of babbling does Paul say to avoid?
Answer: vain

It says in I Timothy 6:20, "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called."

The name Timothy means "honoring God." Timothy was a friend and coworker of Paul's.

70 If Paul was the author of 2 Timothy, it may well have been the final letter he ever wrote. It, therefore, becomes even more poignant that he has been deserted by many of his "friends". Who does he say is the only person still with him?
Answer: Luke

"Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me." (2 Timothy 4 v. 11)

Paul, if he was the author of this letter, comes over as being in downbeat mood. Elsewhere he writes that "everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes" (2 Timothy 1 v. 15); that Hymenaeus and Philetus have "wandered away from the truth" (2 Timothy 2 v. 18); and that "Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm" (2 Timothy 4 v. 14).

Nevertheless, firm in his convictions, he can still rouse himself to close the letter by blessing Timothy and subsequent readers:
"The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you" (2 Timothy 4 v. 22).

71 Paul mentions two characters, called Jannes and Jambres, who withstood Moses. In which Old Testament book are their names also recorded?
Answer: They aren't mentioned by name in any book of the Old Testament.

Jannes and Jambres are mentioned by name in 2 Timothy 3: verse 8, but nowhere else in the Bible. Traditional Jewish sources claim they were two of the sorcerers who turned their rods into serpents, when Moses and Aaron appeared before Pharaoh, as recorded in Exodus 7: verses 10-12.
Your options: [ They are recorded in the book of Judges. ] [ Their names are recorded in Exodus. ] [ They aren't mentioned by name in any book of the Old Testament. ] [ They are mentioned, but not by name, in Deuteronomy. ]

73 From what hazard does Paul tell Timothy he'd been delivered?
Answer: a lion's mouth

Paul says "I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion." in 2 Timothy 4: verse 17. In verse 18, he goes on to say "And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom:". At this time, Paul was a prisoner in Rome under the emperor Nero, expecting at any time to be put to death, but his faith in God was still strong.

74 What things does Paul ask Timothy to bring with him on his next visit?
Answer: his cloak, books, and parchments

Paul asks of Timothy, "The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.", (2 Timothy 4: verse 13). Paul obviously attached greater importance to his parchments than to the purely physical comfort which his cloak would bring him.
