Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Uric man
Uric man anagrams to cranium, which is another word for your skull.
In particular, the cranium is the part of your head where the brain is enclosed and which protects the grey matter that you need to solve these puzzles.
2. Ron's list
When you move around the letters of Ron's list, you come up with nostrils.
Also called external nares, your nostrils are those openings at the end of your nose through which you smell things both pleasant and less so.
3. Plea ad maps
Plea ad maps doesn't make much sense, but when you work with the letters a bit you can find Adam's apple, which does.
The Adam's apple is the prominent bump in some people's throats which is actually a bit of cartilage protecting the larynx. In fact, everybody has one, but it's often more prominent in men.
4. Hold sure
Hold sure becomes shoulder, and if you shoulder a task you might indeed want to hold sure.
Some people have broad shoulders, others might offer a shoulder to cry on while some might have a resentful chip on their shoulder. Less figuratively, the shoulder consists of a pair of joints that keep your arm attached to your torso.
5. O farmer
O! Farmer! might be a call to an agriculturalist, perhaps accompanied by a waving forearm (to which the phrase anagrams).
The two bones in human forearms are the ulna and the radius.
6. Earth
Earth becomes heart, and someone with a lot of heart could be just what Earth needs.
Aside from the purely physical, having a heart can mean being compassionate, while simply having heart, as in the old song "You Gotta Have Heart", means facing up to adversity with a positive attitude. (The song is from the musical "Damn Yankees".)
7. Hot cams
Hot cams might be a problem in a piece of machinery, but when anagrammed they become the very necessary stomach.
Figuratively, to stomach something can mean to put up with something a bit annoying or unpleasant. Anatomically the stomach is part of the digestive system.
8. Ape neck
I hope you weren't fooled into thinking 'ape neck' was anywhere near the neck. In fact it is an anagram of 'kneecap'.
Also known as the patella, the kneecap protects the knee joint - and can sometimes also be the source of pain!
9. Nob shine
Nob shine turns itself around a bit to give us the shinbone, an informal way of describing the tibia.
The tibia is a strong bone, said to be not easily broken, but from experience I can say that it really, really hurts when you are hit in the shinbone by a field hockey stick!
10. Lion ate
Perhaps the lion ate your toenail? No? I suppose it's just because the one thing anagrams to the other that I might have thought so.
Most people have ten toenails, one on each of their ten toes. A toenail can sometimes become ingrown, a painful condition which might require the attention of a doctor. Happier occasions might call for one's toenails to be painted with nail polish.
