Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nitrogen emu

Answer: Roentgenium

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923) was a German physicist who discovered X-rays. In 1901 he received the Nobel Prize for Physics for this work. A Roentgen is a unit of exposure of x-rays or gamma rays and is named after him.
In 2004, he also had Roentgenium (Rh),a radioactive element, named after him (Atomic number 111), which has many unstable isotopes.
2. A sumo spit

Answer: Potassium

Potassium (K) is an alkali silver-white metal (Atomic number 19) that was discovered in 1807.
Potassium ions are essential for living cells and are responsible for many of the body's processes. Potassium rich foods include spinach, banana, salmon and avocado.
3. Nag me sane

Answer: Manganese

Manganese (Mn) is a transition metal (Atomic number 25), discovered in 1774 by a Swedish chemist named Johan Gottlieb Gahn.
Manganese is present in the body mainly in bones but also in the liver, kidney, pancreas and brain. Many food groups contain manganese including shellfish, grains, beans, leafy vegetables and spices. It can also be taken as a dietary supplement in pill form.
4. Our third femur

Answer: Rutherfordium

Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937) was a British physicist who was notable for his work in nuclear physics. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908 and in 1919 discovered the emission of a subatomic particle - the proton.
The element Rutherfordium (Rf), atomic number 104, was named after him in 1997.
5. Lie or fun

Answer: Fluorine

Fluorine (F) is the lightest of the halogen group (Atomic number 9), and under normal conditions is a gas. It was discovered in 1886 by Henri Moissan, a French chemist who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1906 for his work isolating fluorine during electrolysis of the compound potassium bifluoride dissolved in hydrogen fluoride.
Fluorine is the most reactive element and reacts with all other elements except helium, argon and neon.
It is added to drinking water in some areas to help prevent dental cavities.
6. Noble dummy

Answer: Molybdenum

Molybdenum (Mn),atomic number 42, is a silver - grey element and resembles tungsten in appearance. It was discovered in 1781 by Peter Jacob Hjelm, a Swedish chemist.
Molybdenum, like magnesium and iron, is an essential mineral in the human body. The richest sources are usually beans, lentils, grain, liver and kidney.
7. Nerdy hog

Answer: Hydrogen

Hydrogen(H) is the lightest and most abundant element in the periodic table (Atomic number 1) and is a colorless and odorless gas which is highly flammable. The name derives from two Greek words -"hydro (water) and "genes" (forming).
8. Limp tuna

Answer: Platinum

Platinum (Pt) is a heavy, precious, silver-white transition metal (Atomic number 78), that has a high melting point and can resist corrosion. It was once known as "white gold" and is used in jewelry, medicine (in anti-cancer drugs), magnets and catalytic converters.
9. Rush hop ops

Answer: Phosphorus

At room temperature, Phosphorus (P), is a colorless, waxy solid (Atomic number 15) that gives off a glow in the dark. It comes in two varieties- white and red phosphorus. It always exists as a phosphate ion and can be found quite abundantly in Morocco and the Western Sahara.
Phosphorus, like calcium, is essential to build up strong bones and teeth.
10. Impure moth

Answer: Promethium

Promethium (Pm) is an extremely rare radioactive element (Atomic number 61) discovered by Jacob Marinsky, Lawrence Glendenin, and Charles Coryell in 1945. It does not occur naturally on Earth but can be produced by irradiating neodymium and praseodymium.
It is named after Prometheus, the Greek Titan who stole fire from the Gods.
