Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Can you find all the pasta names in this quiz? It isn't at all hard! Let's begin with a baked dish.

Answer: Ziti

Baked Ziti is a popular Italian-American pasta dish - the ziti noodles are cooked and then combined with a tomato and cheese sauce and baked casserole style (like lasagne). Sometimes the dish can include combinations of meat, sausage, mushrooms, peppers and onions.
2. If baked isn't your style, that's not so bad. Maybe you'd like to try these Japanese noodles?

Answer: Soba

Soba are thin Japanese noodles made from buckwheat. In fact, "soba" is the Japanese word for buckwheat, but is synonymous with the noodle of the same name. Soba are always thin noodles, different from their thicker cousins called udon. Soba are typically served cold with a dipping sauce, or as part of a hot noodle soup.
3. Whether Japanese, Italian or other, you can rest assured that dry pasta will not rot. In Italy too, even with their Mediterranean climate swirling around.

Answer: Rotini

Rotini are shaped as tightly wound two-edged spirals - kind of like fat little springs. Another personal favourite of mine.
4. Your friends will think of you as a hero! Tell everyone they can come over to eat this wheel-shaped pasta.

Answer: Rotelle

This little wagon-wheel shaped pasta was among my favourite pasta shapes when I was a kid. "Rotelle" translates as "little wheels".
5. Whatever your angle, keep your options open. Never limit your pasta choices!

Answer: Penne

"Penne" translates as "pens", and specifically referred to quill pens at the time the name was given to the pasta. They are medium length (about an inch) ridged tubes of pasta, with a diagonal cut at the ends.
6. Don't be picky. Even plain old elbow noodles are interesting. Omit other shapes from your choices and you won't be happy.

Answer: Gomito

Gomito are a style of elbow macaroni, a short and fat "L-shaped" pasta. "Gomito" translates directly as "elbow".
7. Flower-shaped noodles are another type that I can't get enough of. I originally thought they looked like honeycombs, but they're supposed to be flowers.

Answer: Fiori

As mentioned in the question, these flower-shaped noodles look somewhat like a honeycomb, in my opinion. They are cut with six circles surrounding a center circle. "Fiori" translates as "flowers".
8. Formal dinner in mind? Put on your bowtie and before you go too far, fall exquisitely into your perfect Italian accent.

Answer: Farfalle

Those little bow-tie noodles you've seen are actually called farfalle. The larger version have a similar name; farfalloni. "Farfalle" translates as "butterflies".
9. Overeating might mean a trip to the doctor! Tell on initial pains that the giant stuffed pasta gave you.

Answer: Tortelloni

There are actually two types of tortelloni: one is simply a larger version of the more common tortellini (ring-shaped and stuffed with meat or cheese); the other is more ravioli-like in style, round or rectangular and similarly stuffed. "Tortelloni" translates as "large little pies".
10. The end of the quiz is on the horizon! In fact, it's already here! Let's celebrate by throwing some rice-shaped pasta!

Answer: Rizoni

Rizoni can also be spelled risoni, and is also known as orzo. It is, as mentioned in the question, not much more than pasta that is shaped like rice. "Rizoni" translates as "rice", while "orzo" translates as "barley".
