Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2001, San Francisco Chronicle Executive editor Phil Bronstein decided to get "up close and personal" with a dangerous animal. Not surprisingly, it attacked him. Which of these warnings would have been the biggest benefit to him?

Answer: Warning: Being Married to Sharon Stone Does Not Protect You From Komodo Dragon Bites!

Sharon Stone and her husband Phil went to the Los Angeles Zoo specifically to see a Komodo Dragon. After an initial peaceful introduction, the animal attacked Mr. Bronstein. In addition to being carnivores, the giant lizards also carry over 22 different kinds of deadly bacteria in their mouths.
2. In May of 2010, actor Jeremy Irons proclaimed that he would make a documentary about how wasteful living was killing the planet. He said, "We can't continue to divide the world between people who live a pie-in-the-sky life and people who are starving." Which warning could apply to Mr. Iron in this case?

Answer: Hey! Owning 7 Homes and a Pink Castle Is the Kind of Living You're Arguing Against!

Mr. Irons does not seem to be able to see the irony in owning 7 houses and a pink castle while saying that everyone else is wasteful. He also stated that people shouldn't buy clothes to help end the recession.
3. Buddy Ebsen missed out on the role of a lifetime in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). What warning could have saved him from quite a bit of discomfort?

Answer: Be Careful: Aluminum Allergies Are Common!

Buddy Ebsen was actually cast to play the Scarecrow. He and Ray Bolger later traded roles, landing Ebsen in the part of the Tin Man. Buddy had already recorded all the songs for the soundtrack and spent 4 weeks in rehearsal. He ended up spending weeks in the hospital recovering from a near-fatal lung infection resulting from an allergy to his aluminum make-up.
4. In 2006, Britney Spears was highly criticized for a decision she made about her child. Which warning would have kept her name out of the press (Well...for this blunder, at least):

Answer: Safety First: Babies Should Be in a Car Seat While Traveling in an Automobile!

Spears claimed she put the child on her lap because the press was chasing her. The world wondered why she decided her child's picture being snapped was more dangerous than the risk she chose to take.
5. In 2007, Alec Baldwin got international attention for a frustrated message he left on his daughter's phone. Which warning might have directed him to a better outcome?

Answer: "Thoughtless Little Pig" is not considered an affectionate nickname!

It took a long time and MANY apologies to begin the healing process between Baldwin and his fans. Because it was a recorded message, it was played on news services over and over--fanning the sparks of the public's ire.
6. Janet Jackson got some bad press after her halftime appearance in Superbowl XXXVIII. What warning could have prevented this?

Answer: Seriously: No One Will Believe It Was a "Wardrobe Malfunction"!

Lyrics to the song Jackson and Timberlake were singing included, "Gonna have you naked by the end of this song". Jackson was fined for the incident, despite several far-fetched excuses (such as "It was a wardrobe malfunction"). Awards shows for the rest of the year (such as the Grammys and Oscars) were run on delays for fear that other celebrities would follow suit.
7. Southwest Airlines found themselves involved in a publicity nightmare when they failed to allow a celebrity to stay on a flight in February of 2010. Which warning might have prevented their PR troubles?

Answer: If You Decide to Kick an Overweight Person off of a Flight, Be Sure It's Not Kevin Smith!

The Southwest Airlines employees *were* following company policy when they informed the writer/director he would need to take a later, less-crowded flight. Smith claims there was a "fellow fatty" even larger who was allowed to remain on the plane. The airline gave Smith a $100 travel voucher and found two seats for him on the next flight to Burbank.
8. In December of 2009, Chris Brown learned to think before he Tweets--the hard way. What cautionary message could have saved him some embarrassment?

Answer: When Wal-Mart Sells Out of Your Album, It's a Good Thing!

When Chris Brown didn't find any copies of "Graffiti" -- which had recently been released -- he assumed the chain had chosen not to carry the album. "But they had Alicia Keys album (sic) ready for release for this Tuesday," he complained. The reason he didn't find his CD was because it had sold out at that location.
9. In November of 2005, Ashlee Simpson made a serious error in judgment that added to the embarrassment she had suffered on "Saturday Night Live" a year earlier. What precaution should she have taken to avoid yet another round of public humiliation?

Answer: Never Climb Onto the Counter at McDonald's!

A drunken Ashlee tried to jump over the counter so she could speak to the manager. She used ugly language to both the McDonald's employees and the people waiting in line. A male friend assisted her off the counter and into the night.
10. Kanye West has gone out of his way to embarrass himself on more than one occasion. It seems that one awards show in particular is a common venue for his outbursts. Which ceremony should he avoid to prevent further mishaps?

Answer: The Video Music Awards

In 2004, West declared to the world that he was robbed of the Best New Artist Award at the VMAs. In 2009, he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video to declare that "Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time." The audience refused to applaud his rant, and he reportedly "gave the audience the finger" on his way offstage.

When Beyonce won an award later that night, she turned the microphone over to Swift so she could give a proper acceptance speech.
