Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who did Chris Jericho defend his WWF Intercontinental Championship against at "Wrestlemania XVII"?

Answer: William Regal

In the opening match of the night, then-WWF Commissioner William Regal challenged Chris Jericho for the WWF Intercontinental Championship. Jericho largely dominated the nearly 8-minute match and retained his title. At "Backlash" 2001, the subsequent Pay Per View, Regal would defeat Jericho in a Duchess of Queensbury Rules match where the title was not at stake, given that Triple H was now the holder of the championship.
2. Which superstar won the WWF Hardcore Championship at "Wrestlemania XVII"?

Answer: Kane

Three intimidating superstars, Raven, Kane, and Big Show, competed in a Triple Threat Hardcore match at "Wrestlemania XVII" with the WWF Hardcore Championship in dispute. Raven walked in as champion but did not keep his title at the end. The match featured several extreme moments, including the wrestlers taking the fight to the backstage area and smashing their opponents into glass windows. Kane managed to get a pin in the ramp area and became the new WWF Hardcore Champion.

Tazz did not participate in this championship bout but did win in an earlier six-man tag team match alongside the APA (Bradshaw and Faarooq).
3. Which superstar used one of his notorious dirty tricks to beat Test and win the WWF European Championship at "Wrestlemania XVII"?

Answer: Eddie Guerrero

Test was the reigning WWF European Champion coming into this Pay Per View. The Canadian initially dominated Guerrero, but Perry Saturn's interference worked in Guerrero's favor. While the referee was distracted, Guerrero illegally hit Test in the face with the metal belt. This knocked him out and gave Guerrero the opportunity to pin Test and hence end the match.

Sadly, Eddie Guerrero passed away in 2005 and Test died in 2009.
4. Which "Rabid Wolverine" did Kurt Angle defeat in a singles match at "Wrestlemania XVII"?

Answer: Chris Benoit

In a match full of suplexes by both competitors, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit faced each other both wearing blue and red. At one point, Angle disrespected Benoit by performing his own submission finisher, the "Crippler Crossface", on him. Angle later tried to tap out when Benoit locked him in the "Crossface", but the referee was knocked out and failed to call the match.

In the end, Angle barely managed to roll-up Benoit and win the match.
5. Which two superstars wrestled in the shortest match of "Wrestlemania XVII" for the WWF Women's Championship?

Answer: Ivory and Chyna

Ivory confidently walked into the ring as the reigning WWF Women's Champion. However, Chyna easily beat up her opponent and won the match in less than three minutes to win her very first WWF women's title. Months later, in November, Chyna vacated her title upon leaving WWF. At "Survivor Series" 2001, Trish Stratus became the new champion.
6. Who was the special guest referee at the "Wrestlemania XVII" street fight between Shane McMahon and Mr. McMahon?

Answer: Mick Foley

"Wrestlemania XVII" showed us one of the many conflicts within the McMahon family that have been part of WWF/WWE television for years. WCW Chairman Shane McMahon faced off against his father, WWF Chairman Vince McMahon, who was supported by his daughter Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. Linda McMahon, still in a wheelchair, made a surprise appearance.

While Mick Foley was trying to get her out of danger, Mr. McMahon hit him with a steel chair. In the end, Linda shocked the crowd by standing up and kicking Mr. McMahon. Foley then beat up the chairman, which allowed Shane to win the match.
7. What stipulation did the memorable match between Edge and Christian, The Dudley Boyz, and The Hardy Boys have at "Wrestlemania XVII"?

Answer: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs

In what is probably one of the best TLC matches in history, three tag teams competed in this extreme match for the WWF Tag Team Championship. Bubba Ray and D-Von, the Dudley Boyz, defended their championship against Edge and Christian, as well as brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy. One of the most remembered moments of the match occurred when Jeff Hardy was holding the belts while suspended in the air, and Edge jumped from a nearby ladder to perform a powerful "Spear". Edge and Christian ended up winning the match, with this one becoming the fourth match of the night where titles changed hands.
8. Which wrestler, who first competed under the name "Harley Davidson", did the Iron Sheik last eliminate to win the Gimmick Battle Royal at "Wrestlemania XVII"?

Answer: Hillbilly Jim

A variety of WWF legends, such as Doink the Clown, Nikolai Volkoff, Brother Love, Kamala, Sgt. Slaughter, Hillbilly Jim, The Goon, and the Iron Sheik competed in this special battle royal. Even though Iron Sheik won by ultimately eliminating Hillbilly Jim, Sgt. Slaughter got the last laugh by choking Iron Sheik.

The two had been involved in multiple feuds throughout the years. The match was officiated by Theodore Long, who later became a long-serving General Manager for the "Smackdown!" brand.
9. Who did The Undertaker defeat at "Wrestlemania XVII" to bring his undefeated "Wrestlemania" streak to 9-0?

Answer: Triple H

One of the main event matches of "Wrestlemania XVII" featured two legendary superstars: The Undertaker and Triple H, who had been involved in a brief rivalry before the Pay Per View. Referee Mike Chioda was knocked out for a good portion of the match after being accidentally struck by Triple H, and then intentionally injured by The Undertaker. The exciting match came to an end when Undertaker delivered "The Last Ride" and pinned Triple H.

The Undertaker and Triple H would revive their "Wrestlemania" feud years later: they also faced off at "WrestleMania XXVII" and "WrestleMania XXVIII", in two matches that are considered some of the best of WWE's modern era.
10. Which superstar lost his WWF Championship in the No Disqualification main event match against Stone Cold Steve Austin?

Answer: The Rock

The Rock was confronted with the tough challenge of beating Stone Cold Steve Austin in a No Disqualification match. Mr. McMahon interfered in the match and contributed to Stone Cold's victory, even after The Rock fended off multiple attempts to handicap him on the part of McMahon.

The match also featured one of the most famous "sells" of Stone Cold's stunner, with The Rock being catapulted upside-down onto the ropes and then falling on his back again. Austin finally won by brutally assaulting The Rock with a steel chair.
