The grand prize of 'Going For Gold' in 1988 was a trip to the Seoul Summer Olympic Games and was won by 'Eggheads' (another British quiz show) regular, Daphne Fowler.
5. The great pride of Classic FM was an annual countdown of the best 300 classical tracks (from centuries ago to the modern day) as voted for by the listeners of the fine station. What is the name given to this feature?

Answer: Hall of Fame

The Classic FM hall of fame broadcasted around Easter time of each year and played every single composition that made it into each particular countdown. The eagerly awaited number one was often revealed by one of the household name radio DJs, Simon Bates, who has also worked on many other radio stations in the past.
Such compositions that have made it to the number one spot include:

Violin Concerto #1 - Max Bruch;
Clarinet Concerto - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart;
The Lark Ascending - Ralph Vaughan Williams.
6. The weekend output, like many other radio stations both past and present, on Classic FM differed from the weekday output. Such differences, particularly on this station, include more specialised programming. David Mellor was a weekend presenter who was the voice of a programme dedicated to brand new CDs within the classical genre. Prior to this, what political party was David Mellor affiliated with?

Answer: Conservatives

David Mellor is probably best known for being jeered off the stage after being defeated in his constituency of Putney on the night that Labour won by a landslide in the 1997 UK general election.
David Mellor also used to present,"If you liked that...you'll like this", where he started with a piece of music and by certain connections he moved through the classical world.
7. Classic FM often played music from the jazz genre and there was a show dedicated to jazz which aired late at night.

Answer: True

When 'Classic FM Jazz' first started broadcasting it was split between the weekday and weekend output. The weekday show was presented by Helen Mayhew, a veteran jazz broadcaster who has many awards, including 'best presenter' at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, to her name.

The weekend show was fronted by Tim Lihoreau, who also doubled up as the station's creative director. The show therefore aired every night and could be listened to between the hours of midnight and 2am.
8. Which of the following people who presented at one time or another on Classic FM, sang the cover version of "Walking in the Air"?

Answer: Aled Jones

His version of this song reached number 5 in the UK charts.

Aled Jones mainly presented during weekend mornings, but, left the station for BBC Radio 2 where he presented shows as a stand-in whilst the regular presenter was away. Most noticeably he stood in for Ken Bruce, a popular weekday morning presenter on the station.
9. Matthew Stiff often presented a "through the night" classical music show on the station from 2am till dawn. With which of the following four musical items did Matthew find fame?

Answer: G4

G4 were a group that came runner up in a series of the popular X-Factor show, broadcast on British television in 2004. Matthew Stiff's show was a mixture of classical and contemporary tracks for insomniacs and late night workers alike.
If you answered Girls Aloud, I don't quite know what to say! :)
10. Myleene Klass often presented the weekend 'Breakfast Show' on Classic FM. Before sitting behind the station's microphone, she was a part of which, rather unsuccessful, manufactured pop band?

Answer: Hear'Say

Hear'Say was a band of five members assembled by one of the first reality TV music programmes,'Popstars'. This predecessor of 'Pop Idol' and 'X-Factor' created a band that included Kym Marsh who went on to star in the British soap opera,'Coronation Street'.

After the failure of the band, Myleene Klass went from strength to strength with a successful career in radio and television broadcasting.
