Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who did General Adnan manage to a World Title victory over The Ultimate Warrior?

Answer: Sgt. Slaughter

Sgt. Slaughter had made a turn to a "heel", he along with The Iron Sheik were aligned with General Adnan. Sgt. Slaughter would defeat The Ultimate Warrior for the title at the Royal Rumble. Slaughter would lose the belt several months later to Hulk Hogan. Slaughter would later turn face and regain his popularity.

General Adnan was also known as Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie. He debuted in the AWA in the early 1980s. His goal was to win the AWA World Title which he did not do. He did however manage the team of Jerry Blackwell known as Sheik Ayatollah Jerry Blackwell and Ken Patera to the AWA Tag Team Title.
2. Managers would often use an object they carried to the ring as a weapon. Jimmy Hart used his megaphone and Freddie Blassie used his cane. What was the weapon of choice for Paul E. Dangerously?

Answer: mobile phone

Paul E. Dangerously based his character off of Jim Cornette. Both men had extremely big mouths, but used their wrestlers to back up the words. Dangerously would often use the phone to hit his wrestler's opponents with much like Cornette did with the tennis racquet. Jim Cornette had managed "The Midnight Express" consisting first of Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton. Dennis was replaced with Stan Lane when Condrey left the NWA. Dennis would team back up with Randy Rose in the AWA as "The Original Midnight Express". The team was managed by Paul. It was not long until Paul along with Condrey and Rose ventured into the NWA. They quickly began a feud with Cornette and his team, but it did not last as Condrey soon left again.

Paul was often seen talking on his phone during his wrestler's bouts. He would often interrupt interviews to take phone calls. He would frequently use the phone to aid his wrestlers in victory. The mobile phones at that the time was the big and bulky ones so they were heavy.
3. What future wrestling valet was born Nickla Ann Roberts?

Answer: Baby Doll

Nickla Ann Roberts began her career in World Class Championship Wrestling as the valet to Gino Hernandez. She was outfitted as a punk rocker a gimmick she only used in that area. She left Texas and was the valet for Tully Blanchard. It was there she became known as "The Perfect 10" Baby Doll. Baby Doll was a great help to Tully helping him successfully defend his NWA World Television Title through her interference. Nickla stayed with Tully until he fired her and she then became the valet of Dusty Rhodes.

Baby Doll was always one of my favorites due to the fact she was extremely animated. She was often at the side of the ring screaming and shouting for Tully to win. She helped Tully retain his title through any means needed. She later would turn on Dusty Rhodes and aid Ric Flair in a title defense against Rhodes.
4. The Grand Wizard of Wrestling and Freddie Blassie were members of the "Triumvirate of Terror". Who was the third member of the trio?

Answer: Lou Albano

Lou along with Freddie and "The Grand Wizard" Ernie Roth were the top managers in the WWF for years. Albano was known for guiding 15 teams to the WWF Tag Team Title. The majority of his career was spent as a "heel" During that time he managed The Wild Samoans and The Moondogs. He would have a change to a "face" many years later and lead Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda to two title victories. He also guided The British Bulldogs to a title victory over Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake.

Lou was a truly boisterous personality. His gimmick was very weird; I never understood why he wore rubber bands on his face. He was involved heavily in the first Wrestlemania with Cyndi Lauper. He appeared in several of her music videos. Lou sadly passed away on October 14th 2009 from a heart attack.
5. John Tolos known simply as Coach during his stay in the WWF. He took over the contract for "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig. He would also acquire the team of The Beverly Brothers. He would later lose their contracts to another manager. Who was the new manager for Curt and the Beverly Brothers?

Answer: Lanny Poffo

Lanny took over the contract of these men when John left the company. He would lose Curt back to Bobby Heenan. He left the company in 1992. Lanny was at first known as "Leaping" Lanny Poffo before his turn to "heel". He would later use the gimmick of "The Genuis" as a manager.

He would dress in a cap and gown as his part of his new gimmick. The poems he used to write to insult the "heel" wrestlers were now aimed toward the "face" wrestlers.
6. Who was the first African American manager in the WWF?

Answer: Slick

Kenneth Johnson started his career in Texas All-Star Wrestling as Slick. He stayed in the area until he left for Central States Wrestling where he would become known "The Doctor of Style" Slick. Slick managed Butch Reed and Bobby Jaggers in Central States.

He would later join the WWF as half the manager to Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik. Freddie Blassie was the other half of the management team. Freddie was in poor health so he was slowly giving all of his duties to Slick.
7. Who was the manager of the J-Tex Corporation?

Answer: Gary Hart

Gary Hart had been a top "heel" manager in World Class Championship Wrestling until it closed down. He moved to the NWA with Al Perez as his protégé. He soon after acquired the contract of veteran wrestler Larry Zbyszko. In 1989, he formed the J-Tex Corp which included Terry Funk and Dick Slater plus The Great Muta. Their primary opponents were The Four Horseman which included Sting at the time. The stable disbanded when Hart left the NWA.

Hart was known for his signature bald head and sunglasses. Like many other managers he started his career as a wrestler. Along with The Spoiler, he held the NWA American Tag Team Championship three times. Hart has managed some of the biggest names in the business including Roddy Piper, "Big" John Studd, Dusty Rhodes, and Jerry Lawler.
8. James Mitchell was a manager in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. What was his name in the WCW?

Answer: James Vandenberg

During his stay in the WCW, Mitchell managed the team of Mortis and Wrath. Chris Kanyon was Mortis and Wrath was Bryan Clark. Their personas were based off of the video game "Mortal Kombat". The main opponent for the duo was Glacier, who was also based off "Mortal Kombat". The pair would often attack Glacier during his matches and interviews. The feud came to head when Glacier along with Ernest Miller battled Mortis and Wrath at Bash at the Beach. Mortis and Wrath won that match.

James managed the stable of wrestlers in TNA known as The Disciples of the New Church. The stable included Shane Douglas and Mike Awesome. James has also managed Paul Orndorff, Jimmy Garvin, and The Iron Sheik.
9. Jim Cornette is probably one of the best known managers in the business. He did not begin his career as a manager. What profession did Jim first have in the wrestling industry?

Answer: photographer

Jim was 14 when he started his wrestling career. He did anything he could to get in the business; he was also a ring announcer. Once he broke into the business his mentor was Jimmy Hart. His greatest success came at managing Bobby Eaton and Dennis Condrey. The duo was known as "Beautiful" bobby and "Loverboy" Dennis, The Midnight Express. Jim helped the duo with a win over "The Rock and Roll Express" for the NWA World Tag Team Titles. After Dennis left the NWA, he was replaced by Stan Lane. Bobby and Stan held the NWA and United Sates Tag Team Titles simultaneously at one point.

Jim would later move to the WWF where he managed the stable known as Camp Cornette. The stable consisted of Vader, Owen Hart, and the British Bulldog. He also managed his former enemies The Rock 'n' Roll Express and Barry Windham during an NWA invasion of the WWF.
10. Paul Ellering spent the majority of his management career with "The Road Warriors". What team did he manage in their feud against "The Road Warriors"?

Answer: Disciples of Apocalypse

Paul spent a very short period of time managing the stable of wrestlers known as Disciples of Apocalypse. The stable used the gimmick of bikers to get over with the wrestling fans. The team consisted of Crush, Chainz, Skull, and 8-Ball. Paul had been quoted as saying it was uncomfortable for him to face Animal and Hawk. He said he had a hard time bad mouthing in interviews as well. Fortunately for Paul, he was not uncomfortable for long as he soon rejoined The Road Warriors.

Paul began his career as a wrestler, but due to an injury he took on managing instead. He led The Road Warriors to the AWA, NWA, and WWF Tag Team Titles. Ellering also managed King Kong Bundy, Jake Roberts, and Iron Sheik.
