Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the Dark Match (the match before the Pay Per View officially starts) for "Starrcade '90" called?

Answer: Bill Irwin vs. TC Carter

"Starrcade '90" was held in St. Louis in December of that year and featured the ending of the Sting-Black Scorpion feud. Both Irwin and Carter were perennial jobbers for WCW.
2. Which of the following did not change their name legally to their wrestling character's name?

Answer: One Man Gang

The Warrior, Rude, and Piper all legally changed their name in order to avoid losing the rights to the name once they left a promotion. This makes one wonder what bank would accept a check signed "The Warrior."
3. Who in the late 1980s repeatedly threatened to leave the WWF for the NWA while still Intercontinental champion?

Answer: Honky Tonk Man

According to several interviews and comments by the Honky Tonk Man, the WWF realized the possibility of Honky's threat, but doubted he would take the pay cut to go to the NWA. Honky Tonk Man, besides being the longest reigning Intercontinental champion, is also Jerry "The King" Lawler's cousin.
4. Who was the first Olympian to hold the WWF Intercontinental title?

Answer: Ken Patera

Ken Patera defeated Pat Patterson to become the second Intercontinental champion. Patera was in weight lifting.
5. Arn Anderson ended The Great Muta's undefeated streak in late 1989 for the NWA World Television title. 1)Who did he lose the title to and 2)who did that person lose the title to?

Answer: Tom Zenk and Arn Anderson

Tom Zenk held it for all of a few days before Arn regained the title. Zenk's title reign was briefly mentioned on the weekend shows, but no successful title defense aired.
6. Lightning Kid and Jerry Lynn had an excellent match in the finals of the Global Wrestling Federation (GWF) Lightheavyweight Title Tournament in 1991. Who did Lightning Kid defeat to enter this final?

Answer: Steve Simpson

Kid went on to WWF and WCW fame as 123 Kid, X-Pac, Syxx, etc. Lynn had brief stints in WCW and WWF. Steve Simpson, a mainstay in World Class Championship Wrestling, only wrestled sporadically after the GWF folded.
7. Who once said, "When we get done with you, you won't be headed to the hospital, you'll be headed to the hospital"?

Answer: Road Warrior Animal

Hyping a match against Demolition, Animal let this one slip. This aired on "Saturday Night's Main Event."
8. Before becoming head of World Championship Wrestling, what was Jim Herd's only wrestling experience?

Answer: Working for KPLR which produced "Wrestling at the Chase"

Besides coming up with The Ding Dongs, Herd is probably best known for allowing Ric Flair to leave WCW without losing the World title. Flair clearly states his distaste for Herd in an interview on the Flair DVD set.
9. What organization's motto was "What the Universe is Watching"?

Answer: Herb Abrahms' Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF)

A take-off of the old WWF slogan "What the world is watching", Herb Abrahms' short-lived UWF had such stars as Steve Williams, Paul Ornodorff, and Cactus Jack.
10. Who took over Sgt. Slaughter's team in the AWA Team Challenge Series when he left for the WWF?

Answer: Col. DeBeers

This novel concept which would place virtually everyone in the AWA on one of three teams and make each match worth a set number of points failed miserably as stars fled the dying AWA. Col. DeBeers, whose gimmick was that of an Apartheid-supporting South African, wrestled sporadically after the AWA closed in 1990.
