Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening match, Eddie Guerrero took on Chris Benoit in a non-title bout. Did the match end by pinfall or submission?

Answer: No

Eddie Guerrero, who was the United States Champion at the time, battled Chris Benoit in the first match of that night's "Smackdown!" As the commentators noticed, Guerrero refused to put his championship on the line in this match. Rhyno came to the ring and attacked Benoit from behind, without referee Mike Chioda noticing. Benoit then started fighting with Rhyno outside the ring, and meanwhile, Tajiri also interfered and attacked Guerrero. This time, Chioda did see this happen and decided to end the match.

Sgt. Slaughter then came out to separate the superstars from each other, and instead, ordered the referee to restart this as a Tag Team Match with Benoit and Tajiri taking on Eddie Guerrero and Rhyno.
2. How did the Tag Team Match of Chris Benoit & Tajiri vs Rhyno & Eddie Guerrero end, after one superstar put his opponent in a "Crippler Crossface"?

Answer: Chris Benoit made Eddie Guerrero submit

Sgt. Slaughter said he was tired of these four men interfering in each other's matches every week, which is why he was making them fight in a tag team match. The team of Benoit and Tajiri ultimately won after the Canadian put Guerrero in his signature "Crippler Crossface" submission maneuver and made him tap out.
3. Which WWE legend, often referred to as the "Dead Man", confronted Vince McMahon and Sable at one point in the August 7, 2003 episode of "Smackdown!"?

Answer: The Undertaker

The Undertaker took Vince to task for letting A-Train do what he did to Stephanie McMahon at "Vengeance" 2003. Vince's daughter Stephanie, who was the General Manager of "Smackdown!" at the time, lost to Sable in a No Countout Match in that Pay Per View.

The pin occurred after A-Train attacked Stephanie, taking advantage of the referee's distraction. Vince wasn't too amused by Undertaker's opinion.
4. Which Japanese superstar ran into Vince's office and asked him to go with him because Brock Lesnar had been attacked?

Answer: Funaki

Funaki interrupted the conversation between Mr. McMahon and The Undertaker and took Vince backstage. They found Brock Lesnar was out cold. Kurt Angle was there too, and he and Vince just stared at each other before Kurt walked away.

Funaki worked at WWE in 1998 when the company still was the WWF. Between 2001 and 2010, Funaki wrestled exclusively at the "Smackdown!" brand and even held the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at one time. After leaving the company, Funaki returned to WWE in 2016 as a Japanese commentator for Pay Per Views.
5. Josh Matthews asked Kurt Angle if he was the one who attacked Brock Lesnar. Did Kurt Angle admit to assaulting Lesnar?

Answer: No

Kurt Angle swore that he didn't do it. He said that he wanted to talk to Brock when he felt better and insisted on his innocence. This was the beginning of a great storyline that pitted Angle and Lesnar against each other for several weeks. Angle told Matthews that he still thought of Lesnar as a friend.

Then, he interrupted Matthews and mocked the interviewer rather than answering his questions.
6. Against which member of the F.B.I. (Full Blooded Italians) did Zach Gowen have a match?

Answer: Nunzio

For the match between Nunzio and Zach Gowen, special guest commentator Matt Hardy sat ringside along with Shannon Moore. Matt Hardy's presence did not help Gowen, as the latter got distracted by Hardy and Nunzio won when he delivered a kick from the second rope. After the match, Matt Hardy and Shannon Moore beat up Gowen some more, and finally, Hardy performed a "Twist of Fate".

Nunzio was part of the F.B.I. staple that first began appearing on WWF television in the 1990s. Nunzio worked for WWE between 2002 and 2008. Nunzio occasionally worked as a referee when WWE events were short on officials.
7. In the August 7, 2003 episode of "Smackdown!", against which superstar, known then as the Doctor of Thuganomics, did The Undertaker wrestle?

Answer: John Cena

This was a rematch from the bout between Undertaker and Cena at "Vengeance 2003", which was won by the "Dead Man". The match was largely dominated by Undertaker at the beginning, though Cena gained some momentum by attacking Undertaker's injured ribs. Late in the match, the referee was knocked out accidentally when Undertaker pushed Cena. The Undertaker then gave Cena a "Chokeslam" and covered him, but the referee was still down so the pinfall wasn't successful.

With the referee still down, A-Train came to the ring and attacked The Undertaker. Cena pinned Undertaker, the referee slowly made the count, and Cena ended up winning the match. Who would've thought that 15 years later, Undertaker and Cena would meet again at "Wrestlemania 34" with both men becoming two of the most important names in the industry.
8. Jamie Noble took on Doug Basham later in the night. Which of them won, Noble or Basham?

Answer: Noble

The match between Jamie Noble and Doug Basham was a really short one. Noble was accompanied to the ring by Nidia, while Basham had both Danny Basham and Shaniqua join him. Noble got the win through a "small package" pin and after the match, both Bashams attacked him. Billy Gunn came to the ring and cleaned house, stopping the beating on Noble.
9. Rey Mysterio took on Charlie Haas in the penultimate match of the August 7, 2003 episode of "Smackdown!". Which long-time tag team partner of Haas walked to the ring with him?

Answer: Shelton Benjamin

Even though Rey Mysterio was able to hit Charlie Haas with his signature "619", it wasn't enough to defeat Haas. This was an embarrassing defeat for Mysterio, who at the time was the reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion. Haas won the match with the "Haas of Pain", which forced Mysterio to submit.

Shelton Benjamin started his professional wrestling career in the 2000s and has competed for several promotions. He worked with Haas several times in the 2000s and sporadically in the 2010s in a team called "World's Greatest Tag Team". During this year, they won the WWE Tag Team Championship twice: in February 2003 and then again in July 2003.
10. In what type of match did Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar face off at the main event of "Smackdown!" on August 7, 2003?

Answer: Steel Cage Match

Kurt Angle served as special guest referee in this Steel Cage Match, where participants are locked inside the cage and can only win by pinfall, submission, or by escaping the cage. Brock Lesnar tried to give Vince the "F-5" but then suddenly collapsed. Vince pinned him but Kurt refused to make the count. Angle and Vince argued back and forth, and Angle even put McMahon into the painful "Ankle Lock".

All of a sudden, Brock sprang to his feet and gave Angle an "F-5", earning boos from the audience. Vince grabbed the WWE Championship and told Brock "this is yours." McMahon and Lesnar smiled at each other, indicating that this whole thing was just a set-up. Brock continued beating Angle and then left the ring with Vince.
