Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Like many books, the New Testament has heroes and villains. These are some of the heroes and where you can read about them:
Jesus is the main character of the New Testament, and the four Gospels tell the story of his life, death and resurrection. He is God's Son and the Messiah who came to rescue people from their sins and death. (See the Books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)
Mary was Jesus' mother and the first heroine in the New Testament. She was a young woman who had never had a baby before, and God chose her by the Holy Spirit's power to become pregnant with His Son and give birth to Him. (See Matthew 1:16-2:11 and Luke 1:27-2:34)
John the Baptist fulfilled the predictions of the Old Testament by paving the way for Jesus, the Messiah. He was a humble and obedient servant of God at all times. John was even ready to suffer and die for his testimony and became a martyr for the truth of God's chosen Son. (See Matthew 3:14 and Mark 1:4-14, 6:17-29)
Peter's original name was Simon but Jesus later changed it to Peter which meant "rock". He was a brave man who guided many people to Christ. He became one of the most important leaders and was crucified as a martyr for Christ. (See Matthew 4:18-19, 10:2, 15-19, 26; Mark 3:16, 8-14; Luke 22; John 1, 13, 18, 20-21; Book of Acts; 1 Peter; 2 Peter)
Stephen is a heroic figure in the New Testament because he was the first Christian martyr. He was accused of blasphemy and stoned to death while praying for his persecutors to not hold their sin against them. (See Acts 6-7)
The Wise Men (or Magi) went on a journey to search for a newborn King (Jesus). They came to worship Jesus and honour Him with precious gifts. The Wise Men were heroic figures in the New Testament because they recognized Jesus as the Messiah. (See Matthew 2:1-16)
Mary Magdalene met Jesus and He freed her from seven demons. Mary Magdalene was also the first person to see Jesus after His resurrection and to announce the good news to the other disciples. (See Matthew 27-28; Mark 15-16; Luke 8:2, 24:10; John 20)
Paul of Tarsus was influential in the spreading of Christianity after the death of Jesus Christ. He was a former persecutor of Christians but converted after meeting the resurrected Jesus on the road to Damascus. (See Acts 7:58-8:1-3, 9, 13-28; Book of Romans; 1 Corinthians; 2 Corinthians; Galatians; Ephesians; Philippians; Colossians; 1 Thessalonians; 2 Thessalonians; 1 Timothy; 2 Timothy; Titus; Philemon)
Barnabas is known for selling his land and giving the money to the apostles. He was also a companion of Paul and was instrumental in introducing him to the apostles after his conversion. Barnabas was called by the Holy Spirit, along with Paul, to go on a missionary journey to spread the Gospel (See Acts 4:36-47, 9:27, 11:22-30, 13-15)
Andrew played an important role in God's plan of salvation because he was the first to recognise Jesus as the Messiah and to follow Him. He brought Peter to meet Jesus and others who became disciples of Christ. (See John 1:35-42.)
Abraham, Moses, Esther, King David, Eve and Sarah were notable figures in the Old Testament.
