His lived with him, and with a gruff voice portrayed very well by the , he warned Peter to never go out into the meadow on his own, because a hungry wolf might come out of the forest and eat him up!

Looking over the garden wall, Peter saw that the meadow was very beautiful. With the flighty sound of the , a little red called to Peter from a tree, enticing him to come out into the meadow, which he did.

In the middle of the meadow, Peter came to a lovely pond, and as he approached, a jumped in and swam away, to the sound of the . Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

"Peter and the Wolf" (Op. 67 a "symphonic tale for children") was composed by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936, with himself also writing the libretto (the words). A narrator read the story of the young, adventurous Peter, with the different instruments representing him and the other characters, musically accompanying the action programmatically.

The strings of the orchestra (violin, viola, cello and double bass) all contribute to playing Peter's theme, although it is most often played by just the violin, alone.

The dangerous (and hungry!) wolf's theme is provided by three French horns, part of the brass family of the orchestra, and their melody always sounds scary. Other instruments in the family (that didn't get to be featured) include the trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba.

Woodwind instruments bring to life most of the rest of characters. Peter's grandfather is played by the bassoon, sounding gruff but authoritative, while the little bird (the flittering flute), the duck (sad and plaintive oboe), and the cat (with a slinky clarinet) round out the section.

The timpani, or kettle drums, represent the percussion section of the orchestra, which has a large variety of instruments, normally. For "Peter and the Wolf", however, just the big timpani were needed to represent the hunters who took the wolf away.
