Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before she enters Cackle's Academy, what is Mildred Hubble's talent?

Answer: Drawing

Mildred can see Cackle's Academy from her flat, because she is magical. She is drawing it when she meets Maud, a witch her age.
2. Ethel Hallow turns Mildred into a frog and throws her into the pond, where she meets Professor Rowan-Webb in amphibious form. Who turned Professor Rowan-Webb into a frog?

Answer: Miss Gullett

Miss Gullett, the Spell Science teacher, is obsessed with "health and safety". After being dismissed from Cackle's for turning Rowan-Webb into a frog because she wanted his job, she joins Miss Cackle's twin sister Agatha's coven of witches who do not follow the Witches' Code.
3. Algernon Rowan-Webb is Miss Bat's long-lost sweetheart. Do they ever get married?

Answer: Yes

Unfortunately, when Mr Rowan-Webb proposes to Miss Bat, she is under an enchantment which causes her to say the opposite of what she means; after she repeatedly rejects him, Algernon decides to live out the rest of his days as a frog. Once she has been freed of it, Miss Bat convinces him to marry her.
4. Mildred steals a wishing star: a powerful potion. What does she use it for?

Answer: To give her non-magical mother magical powers

Miss Cackle invites Mildred's mother, Julie, to teach art at Cackle's to reward Mildred for restoring the founding stone after Esmerelda took its power to replace hers. The magical teachers exclude Julie, so Mildred makes her a witch...
5. When Ethel casts too many spells in anger, which of these does she turn into?

Answer: A swamp troll

Ethel is irritable because she receives less attention from her parents than her sisters, perhaps because she is the middle child. She is often prevented from impressing them by Mildred's exposure of her unlawful deeds, to her chagrin.

Being turned into a swamp troll causes Ethel to see herself as monstrous, and she is sorry she has been unkind, especially to her little sister Sybil. Being kind to Sybil breaks the spell that turned her into a swamp troll, and she becomes a witch again.
6. After relinquishing her powers, Julie gets her hands, although not her tongue, on a succession of sweet treats. What fact, associated with this, suggests she might still be magical?

Answer: The stubborn cook, Miss Tapioca, has disappeared

It is against the Witches' Code for non-magical people to have magic, so Julie casts a spell to divest herself of hers. After this, people at Cackle's Academy begin to go missing. Maud notices they've all annoyed Miss Julie Hubble, after which, she goes missing.
7. How does Miss Hardbroom know that being given magic can make non-magical people become dangerous?

Answer: She turned her friend into a witch

Joy was a talented witch and a student at Cackle's academy before witches were allowed to reveal themselves to non-magical people. She liked to leave the academy and eat ice cream and dance in the park. One day, she befriended a non-magical girl called Indigo Moon (Indie) who could see her because she believed in magic.

She was busted, and given the choice between leaving Cackle's and remaining within its bounds. She chose the latter, and invited Indie to spend the holidays there. She stole a wishing star and turned her friend into a witch.

Indie went wild, but turned to stone before she could annihilate the Academy. Joy grew up to be Miss Hardbroom.
8. Miss Bat and Mr. Rowan-Webb are gifted with a wishing star on their wedding. They give it to Ethel and Mildred, so they can find Indie. Ethel uses it; what does she wish for?

Answer: For a deep-fake hologram of Indie to terrorise the school

Ethel uses the wishing star to conjure up a deep fake of Indie. It conjures up a storm and begins to throw lightning bolts at Cackle's. It declares it will turn Miss Hardbroom to stone, or destroy the Academy, if it can't. Ethel uses a protection spell to gather up fake-Indie's lightning and throw it back at her.

She becomes a hero. Mildred realises Ethel used the wishing star to improve her status, and exposes Ethel; as a consequence, the wishing star brings fake-Indie back so Ethel can defeat it again and have her wish fulfilled.

She cannot, and nor can anyone else, because Ethel has cleared out Miss Hardbroom's potions laboratory. Miss Hardbroom fetches the real Indie, and they, Mildred and others convince the fake Indie it isn't real. This breaks Ethel's spell.
9. In season 4, Ethel and Mildred compete to become head girl. The deciding feat is "spell design". Ethel produces rainbows which fly and dance around the room. What new spell does Mildred cast?

Answer: To fix things that are broken

Mildred breaks Miss Cackle's spectacles and her spell repairs them perfectly. She is made head girl. When Miss Cackle dons her glasses, she turns into crystal and shatters into hundreds of pieces. Miss Hardbroom, assuming Mildred recklessly destroyed Miss Cackle, sends her to Wormwood Academy for Undesirable Witches.
10. Who casts the spell which demolishes Miss Cackle?

Answer: Felicity

Felicity casts the spell which curses Miss Cackle's glasses before Mildred casts her harmless one. Felicity is working for Ethel, who's promised to let her become Deputy Head if she is made Head Girl. Ethel is working for Agatha, who's promised to let her be Head Girl if she obeys her instructions.
