Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. ANIMALS: What animal primarily lives in the dirt and eats dirt as well?

Answer: Earthworm

The earth worm mainly lives in the dirt, although some species rise to the surface to mate or eat other organic matter. The earth worm's movement around the dirt aerates and mixes the soil, and even creates nutrients good for many plants. This makes the earth worm great for farmers and gardeners. Most worms will also take organic material like dead leaves and manure, and bring it down in the ground either to plug their burrow or to use as food.

They usually tear the material to shreds, and they partially digest it.

When it leaves the worm's body, it will mix with intestinal secretions, thus fertilizing the soil. By aerating the soil, the earthworm keeps open passages for water to drain into the soil for plants to pick up, and also makes easy passages for oxygen to travel.
2. BRAIN TEASERS: OK, I will give you some synonyms of words and you must tell me what the real words are. For example, obese feline becomes fat cat. What is "a movie about household filth?"

Answer: film of dust

A movie is a film. This is the first word. Household filth is dust, the second word. Put this together to make a film of dust. When you see a film of dust it is usually because there is dust in the air and it settles on the surface. Dust will land everywhere, and it is always in the air, so you can never get rid of it completely. Dust can be described as any solid material smaller than 500 micrometers. Dust in the home is mainly made up of dead skin cells.

It is estimated that the entire outer layer of skin is shed every one or two days.

In order to shed an entire layer so quickly, scientists have estimated that you lose skin flakes at a rate of 7 million cells a minute. That is a lot of skin flakes!
3. CELEBRITIES: Who is the host of "Dirty Jobs"?

Answer: Mike Rowe

Mike Rowe is always put in dirty and dangerous situations. The show is about people doing dirty jobs to make the world a better place, and more livable. Mike Rowe assists them, and tries to see what it is like to do that dirty job. He has done many unpleasant jobs, including mining, caving (not to be confused with spelunking), geoduck harvesting any many other dirty, dirty jobs.

His show is shown on Discovery Channel. He also frequently talks about his camera crew, mainly Barsky, and tells us what went wrong with them. One time Barsky and the crew fell over in a boat and they lost all of their expensive equipment. Mike Rowe used to be an opera singer, and now his show is watched by mostly women who want to see him, not what he is doing. Three pilot episodes were shown in November of 2003.

The pilot episodes were so popular, the show returned on July 26, 2005 as an actual television series.
4. ENTERTAINMENT: Which of the following comic book super villains is made up of a lot of dirt?

Answer: Sandman

The Sandman is an enemy of Spider-Man's, and his body has been made into sand, but he has complete control of the sand. He was first introduced in 1963 in "The Amazing Spider-Man #4". He was played by Thomas Hayden Church in the 2007 movie, "Spider-Man 3".

The Sandman started his life of crime after he beat up his football coach for kicking him off the team after throwing a game. He was put in and out of jail often, and one day he decided to escape. He escaped to a nuclear testing site in Savannah, Georgia. On this testing site some sand had been irradiated by an experimental reactor.

The Sandman came in contact with this sand, thus turning him into sand. At one point in time he found that the sand began turning into glass, but he was able to reverse the effect.
