During the Bosnian War, Sarajevo was cut off by the Army of Republika Srpska (Bosnian Serb Army) for 1425 days; from 5 April 1992 to 29 February 1996. It was three times longer than the Battle of Stalingrad, more than a year longer than the siege of Leningrad, and was the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare.

In his post-presidential years, George Washington started a booming whiskey business. In 1797, after retiring in Mount Vernon, he started to grow rye managed by a Scotsman named James Anderson. Since rye was not popular for eating, the rye was turned into whiskey. By 1799, according to Smithsonian Magazine, his distillery became the largest in the U.S and "produced 11,000 gallons of clear, un-aged whiskey, which Washington sold for a total of $1,800 ($120,000 by today's standards)."
