Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. South Korean boy band

Answer: 17

Seventeen is the name of this South Korean boy band, although there are only thirteen performers. Initially there were another four pre-debut members but the meaning behind the name has since changed. The 13 performers are divided into 3 groups (hip-hop, vocal and performance), together making 1 team (which adds up to 17). Their debut EP came out in 2015, however the whole thing started as an online streaming platform called "Seventeen TV" in 2013.
2. Olympic rings

Answer: 5

Created in 1913 and typically seen as five coloured interlocking rings on a white background, this is the Olympic emblem. Including the white background, it was designed to show the colours from the flags of all competing countries at the time. It also possibly represents the five inhabited continents.
3. Pairs of chromosomes

Answer: 23

Humans generally have a total of 46 chromosomes, arranged in 23 pairs consisting of 22 pairs of autosomes and 1 pair of sex chromosomes. There are some people with genetic variations or mutations; for example, those with Down syndrome or Klinefelter syndrome have an extra chromosome, and those females with Turner syndrome have only one X chromosome and so have only 45 chromosomes.
4. Cricket team

Answer: 11

There are eleven players in each team. Normally there are thirteen players on the pitch at any one time, consisting of eleven fielders and two batters from the opposing team, along with two umpires to referee the game. Played at least since the mid-16th century, it spread with the British Empire.
5. Grumpy, Doc and co.

Answer: 7

This is a reference to the fairy tale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves". The original tale was published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, however it was not until the 1912 Broadway play version that the dwarves were first named. Their song "Heigh Ho" first appears in the 1937 Walt Disney animated version. The dwarves have also appeared in other unrelated Walt Disney animations.
6. Musketeers of Alexandre Dumas

Answer: 3

"Les Trois Mousquetaires" (or "The Three Musketeers"), written in 1844, was the first of three French 17th century adventure novels featuring the musketeer d'Artagnan. D'Artagnan was not, in fact, one of the three musketeers. It was written by Alexandre Dumas with ghostwriting support from Auguste Maquet. There are over 50 films that can be traced back to this book and its sequels.
7. Amendment giving US women the vote

Answer: 19

The Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution went into effect in 1920, some 42 years after the first suffrage amendment was put to Congress. It prohibits denying the right to vote on the basis of sex, which in effect meant that women could vote. New Jersey in fact was the first state to allow most women and African Americans to vote. This was between 1776 and 1807.
8. British colonies declaring independence

Answer: 13

These were the thirteen British colonies on the Atlantic coast of North America which broke away in the 18th century to form the United States of America. Prior to the end of hostilities in 1783, they were part of British America.
9. Atomic number of copper

Answer: 29

Copper is one of the few metals than can be found in nature in a directly usable form, although it is more often found in the form of a compound. Although it has been used for at least 10,000 years, its name comes from Roman times when their main source of the metal was mines on the island of Cyprus. It joins gold, silver and roentgenium in Group 11 of the periodic table.
10. Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors

Answer: 31

This American multinational has a chain of some 8,000 speciality stores selling ice cream. Known for its '31 flavors' slogan, the company logo incorporates the number 31 into the Baskin-Robbins initials. The number represents the idea that the customer can have a different flavour of ice cream for every day of the month. Dunkin' Donuts is a sibling brand.
