Although he had planned to record the song first, he had an automobile accident and couldn't do so. Presley needed a song to follow "Heartbreak Hotel" and took "Blue Suede Shoes", which went right to the top of the charts.

The cat is all the young man gets as his inheritance when his father dies and he's very disappointed since his brothers got the mill and the mules. However, this is an extra special cat. For months he catches and takes game to the king, saying it's a gift from his master, the Marquis.

When he knows the King and his daughter will be coming along the road he talks his master into going swimming and then hides his clothes. Puss then runs to the King's carriage asking for help, telling the King that his master, the Marquis, had been bathing and his clothes were stolen.

The King, of course, clothes the man and the daughter falls in love with him instantly. After Puss has tricked and eaten the Ogre who owns the castle, the King sees it and is so impressed with the young man and his estate he allows the willing daughter to marry him. Puss in Boots lives the life of a lord after that, and the young couple live happily ever after. That's how fairy tales should always end!

The shoe "last" is a foot-shaped form, that is often attached to the top of a stand.
