Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As you drive down the road, you inevitably crash your car to a tree after you see Hamm, Petunia, Noelle and Ferrous slowly crossing the road. They rush to your aid and tell you that they are headed to Animal Kingdom for the Suidae Summit headed by Snowball and Minimus. Shortly after, you pass out. You eventually wake up and realize that you were not hallucinating earlier. You are officially in Animal Kingdom and you really were talking to some famous what?

Answer: Pigs

Pigs belong to the Suidae family in the Animal Kingdom taxonomy. Despite being stereotyped as sloppy, lazy animals, pigs are actually sociable and intelligent. The summit is headed by Snowball, the pig who escaped from Napoleon's dastardly communism in George Orwell's satirical novel, "Animal Farm." With him is Minimus, the bard of the Orwell novel who sings songs about Napoleon's reign.

He is the one who wrote the "patriotic" song titled, "Animal Farm, Animal Farm." Petunia is Porky the Pig's love interest introduced in the 1937 short, "Porky's Romance." She was voiced by Bernice Hansen and Shirley Reed in many subsequent shorts. Hamm is the fragile witty piggy bank in the "Toy Story" series. Noelle is the Christmas gift Suzanne Sugarbaker's maid gave to her in the TV series, "Designing Women." Suzanne loves Noelle, even going so far as buying a semi-automatic rifle when someone threatened to barbecue the pig. Ferrous is the new name of the mascot for the minor league baseball team, Lehigh Valley IronPigs, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Ferrous' original name was PorkChop but it was changed because of complaints from the Hispanic community saying that the name was offensive.
2. You wait for thirty minutes in the hospital before Dr. A.F. Lac comes to assist you. After catching a glimpse of his ID, you realize that the doctor's title is highly dubious. He excuses himself to tend to victims of an airplane collision. The victims include Ping, Ferdinand, Choo Choo Curtis and Orville. As you head out of the hospital, it hits you that the doctor tended to his fellow what?

Answer: Ducks

Dr. A.F. Lac is a quack doctor, a slang term used for doctors who promote unproven and/or deceitful medicinal practices. The Aflac duck is the mascot for the Aflac Incorporation, a supplemental insurance provider in the United States. He was voiced by the comedian, Gilbert Gottfried, before he was replaced in 2011 by Daniel McKeague. Ping is the protagonist in the children's book, "The Story About Ping," set in China's Yangtze River. Ping misses the boat he lives on and tries to find his way back to his home. Ferdinand is the duck who tries to preserve his life in the 1995 movie, "Babe" by trying to prove to his masters that he is more beneficial to them alive rather than dead. Choo Choo Curtis is the mail carrier who frequently visits the comic strip world of "Pogo." Orville is the Keith Harris' green duckling puppet, inspired by one of the Wright brothers. In 1982, "Orville's Song" came out during the peak of Keith Harris and his puppets' popularity.

The ducks are rushed to the hospital after they all attempted to fly and they ended up colliding with an airplane, which, not surprisingly, was left unscratched.
3. You head into Caiman Hotel and find out that it is hosting The Annual Sobek Convention at the time. The president of this convention is Gustave, known for his sharp arguments and snap judgments. Other members include Pui Pui, Vector and the late beloved Sweetheart. The minutes of this convention are recorded by the eccentric secretary named Tick Tock. You rush out of the hotel as fast as you can upon realizing that this is a convention of what?

Answer: Crocodiles

Crocodiles belong in a family of animals that include alligators, caimans (the name of the hotel), and gharials. Sobek is the name of the Egyptian god of Nile products and fertility. He has the head of the crocodile since ancient Egypt relied on the Nile River for prosperity, a river infested with crocodiles. Gustave, the president, is the sixty-some-year old crocodile that resides in the Nile River somewhere in Burundi.

He is the inspiration of the 2007 horror flick, "Primeval." Pui Pui is the notorious crocodile that haunted the Shan Pui River of Hong Kong around late 2003/early 2004 before being captured in June 2004 and moved to the Hong Kong Wetland Park on August 2006. Vector is the bossy but good-natured leader of the Chaotix Detective Agency in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" video games. Sweetheart was the Australian croc who had a five-year reign of terror before being captured and accidentally drowning upon entangling on a log.

Her body is mounted at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory but her legacy lives on as she is a commemorative member of the Sobek Conventions. Tick Tock is the determined crocodile in "Peter Pan" who wanted to eat Captain Hook after Peter gave the croc the captain's hand. Tick Tock swallowed an alarm clock, hence the name, and you can always tell when he is near because you will hear the ticking and see the crazy bouncing eyes.
4. Across from Caiman's Hotel is The Head Whigs Library. You enter not noticing the sign on the door that says 'Parliament Members Only'. There seems to be a book reading going on headed by someone named Soren. On the bar stools are Bubi, Ulysses and Archimedes. Overwhelmed by the awkwardness of the moment, you slowly back out and leave at once. This time, you turn to the door and notice a sign that says there is currently a gathering of renowned what?

Answer: Owls

Owls are solitary creatures of the night. If it ever happens that owls gather together and form a group, it is considered a parliament. Soren is the protagonist in the Kathryn Lasky book series, "Guardians of Ga'hoole." Part of the series was turned into a movie in 2010, entitled "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole." Archimedes is Merlin the wizard's sidekick in the Disney film, "The Sword in the Stone." He is the one who suggested that the young King Arthur transform himself into a bird.

Hedwig (the inspiration of the library's name), is the pet owl of the young J.K. Rowling wizard, Harry Potter. Ulysses is the pet owl of the founder of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, Gerald Durrell. Bubi is the eagle-owl that represents good luck for the Finland national football team when it shows up for major soccer events in the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
5. Shaken, you stop by Nandini's, a roadside diner. The place is packed because of a birthday party for Miss Daisy Silk. The guests include respected personalities such as Damona and Kamadhenu as well as struggling celebrities including Gene, Otis and Elsie. The party seems to carry along smoothly until a representative of Mrs. O'Leary comes to the front door. The party turns into chaos and you vow to yourself that you will never ever party again with what?

Answer: Cows

Female bovine, or cow, is widely raised for its milk (changing the S's in Daisy Silk gives you "dairy milk"). In some places, cows are considered divine entities not to be meddled with. According to Hindu beliefs in India, Kamadhenu is the mother of all cows, symbolizing prosperity and fertility. Nandini is Kamadhenu's daughter and she is known for granting wishes.

In Sanskrit, Nandini literally translates to "daughter." In Gallic mythology, Damona is also known as the Divine Cow. Gene is the resident cow in "our" world's version of Harvard's underground laboratory in the sci-fi TV series, "Fringe." Otis, despite being a guy, is billed as a cow in the 2006 animated film, "Barnyard." Another cow in that movie, voiced by Courteney Cox, is named Daisy. Elsie is the mascot of "Borden Dairy" previously going by the names of Flossie and Bessie. Finally, according to folktale, Mrs. O'Leary's cow knocks down a lantern starting a fire in her barn, which is the root of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
6. Desperate for any human interaction, you check out this fancy restaurant called The Bisque. You find out that there is a private celebration for the Fifteenth Annual Sideways Marathon. Curiosity got the best of you so you take a peek at the window and find Eugene, Carcinus and Sebastian along with the Mercora race sitting around one huge table sharing stories casually. Mesmerized by the display, you remained in position as you watch this unusual meeting of what?

Answer: Crabs

Crabs, along with other types of crustaceans, are the main ingredients of bisque, a smooth and creamy soup which originated from the French. Because of the anatomy of their legs, most crabs prefer to walk sideways, hence the sideways marathon. Carcinus is the Latin version of the Greek-named constellation, Cancer, a constellation that resembles the crab. Eugene H. Krabs is the "crustaceous cheapskate" that serves as both SpongeBob's employer and friend in "SpongeBob SquarePants." Sebastian is the musically-gifted crab who is assigned to watch over Ariel in Disney's "The Little Mermaid." The Mercora race is the giant mutated crab race that is featured on K.A. Applegate's sci-fi series, "Animorphs." Their race apparently introduced broccoli to mankind.
7. You run frantically and fall into a manhole, straight into the Aquerna Assembly. The assembly is deliberating whether to accept Morwenna into the club. Slappy, Rocky and Fred seem to be willing to give Morwenna a chance but Princess Sally and Maximillian are both strongly against it. Pikku Orava starts singing and the whole thing turns into a human-like debate. Fascinated, you almost forget that you are dealing with an assembly of...

Answer: Squirrels

The Aquerna Assembly takes its name from the translated Old English word for squirrel, "aquerna." Morwenna is one of the antagonists in the Robin Jarvis novel trilogy, "The Deptford Mice" right after the evil "Lord of All," a cat named Jupiter. With her reputation as a traitor, it is no surprise that there is so much commotion over accepting her in the club. Slappy, along with Skippy Squirrel, is one of the many animated characters in the Steven Spielberg-Warner Bros. TV series collaboration, "Animaniacs." Slappy got her name because she likes to slap people with her purse. Rocky is the flying squirrel that stars in "The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show," a cartoon series that gained popularity three decades before the "Animaniacs". Fred is more recent, unlike the two old-timers.

He is the golden squirrel in "The Penguins of Madagascar." Princess Sally and Maximillian are from the Acorn Kingdom in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" comic series. Princess Sally is the Freedom Fighter leader who becomes Sonic's love interest. Maximillian is the king of the Acorn Kingdom. Pikku Orava is the Finnish version of the Chipmunks. With a name that literally means "Little Squirrel," this animated singing squirrel released an album that reached high ranks in the Finnish album charts.
8. You ran in a tunnel, fell in what seems like deep sewer, almost drowned and made friends in the dark with your savior, Mr. Oswald. Oswald introduces you to the old wise Paul, the young neurotic Pearl, and their foreign friends, Takosuke and Belial. Once you have parted with your new friends in the dark, you remember Oswald talking about the rich Mr. Fancyson III and the hair in your back stands up straight as you realize that you made friends with some what?

Answer: Octopuses

Octopuses are arguably the smartest invertebrates in the animal kingdom. They are known for shooting off ink to fend themselves from predators. Oswald is the main character in the kid's show of the same name. The old wise Paul is the octopus that gained popularity in Europe, especially Germany, because he predicted the results of World Cup matches. Paul passed away in October 2010.

The young neurotic Pearl is a flapjack octopus in "Finding Nemo" and, true to her zoology, she squirts ink when she gets nervous. Takosuke and Belial are octopuses of the Konami-produced Japanese series, "Parodius," a parody of another Konami video game, "Gradius." Mr. Fancyson III is also well-known as Squilliam, Squidward's competition in the "Spongebob Squarepants" television series.

Although both were given squid-related names and six tentacles instead of eight, Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of the series, insists that both characters are octopuses.
9. You find yourself out of the village and into a farmland named "The House of Huberta." You bump into William Johnson, Owen, Tasha and Murray. They turn out to be the friendliest batch you've met all day, offering to take you to your car. Once you get on Owen's back, they run so fast that you are not surprised to hear Tasha brag that they are deemed as "river horses." Once Owen drops you off, you are so grateful that you hug this group of what?

Answer: Hippopotamuses

The term "hippopotamus" comes from the ancient Greek term for "river horse." Hippopotamuses are the third largest mammal (after whales and elephants) but they can also run faster than some humans. Huberta is the traveling hippopotamus that gained fame in South Africa after she took a three-year journey from Zululand to the Eastern Cape. William Johnson is the hippo that was given as a pet to former US President Calvin Coolidge by Harvey Firestone in 1927. Owen is the other half of the famous unlikely duo in Kenya. Owen, a hippo, and Mzee, a tortoise, created a genuine friendship that surprised the world. Mzee was removed in 2007 and she was replaced by a female hippo after that. Tasha is the singing hippo in the children series, "The Backyardigans" and Murray is the muscular driver of the "Sly Cooper" video games.
10. Despite its dents, the car works fine so you hop in to drive away. Before you can put Animal Kingdom behind you, you see a traveling circus of some sort. Entitled as "The Amazing World of Arachne and Anansi," Iktomi, Shelob, Ungoliant and Arianwen come out of a stage and start playing your journey in this village. Too freaked, you speed away missing the big finale by La Princesse. Later that night, you will still have nightmares of those traveling what?

Answer: Spiders

Lured by pigs and driven out by spiders, you must be so exhausted. Arachne, according to Greek mythology, is the earliest spider. She is a talented weaver whom the goddess Athena drove to committing suicide. Guilty of her actions, Athena brought back Arachne as a spider. Anansi is a famous character of West African folklore as a spider that embodies lessons of wisdom and skills.

The Native American version of Anansi in the Lakota mythology is Iktomi. Shelob is an evil spirit embodying a spider introduced in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Two Towers," one of the books of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Ungoliant is another evil Tolkien character but, this time, in "The Silmarillion." Arianwen is the main character in one of the three children fantasy novels written by Jenny Nimmo as a trilogy. Arianwen appears in "The Snow Spider."
