- Gyumri features a national dish called Kiala whose literal translation is "head". It is, in fact, a cow's head eaten by the people in the Shirak region.

- Vanadzor is home to the first statue of Vladimir Lenin erected during his lifetime.

- Vagharshapat received its official name after Armenia gained independence in 1995; however, the town is still popularly known as Ejmiatsin, its name between 1945 and 1995.

- Excavations led by historian Mesrop Smbatiants in the 1860s revealed that the area of modern-day Abovyan was inhabited starting from the end of the 4th century BC.
