- Maribor is the city of the oldest vine in the world, which has been growing in the old city center for more than 400 years and was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2004.

- Kranj is famous for its ties to Slovenia's national poet, France Preseren, who was born in the nearby village of Vrba in 1800.

- Celje became the seat of the new Diocese of Celje on 7 April 2006, created by Pope Benedict XVI within the Archdiocese of Maribor.

- Koper is known for producing one of the highest-quality olive oils in the world. Koper olive farmers have received the highest awards on a global level.
