George Clinton was not only the first governor of New York, but also served two separated terms, from 1777-1795 and 1801-1804.

Broadway is where you can find places such as Kingston Hospital, Kingston High School, Broadway Lights Diner, and my favorite place, Up in the Cut hair salon.

The museum can be found in the downtown area of Kingston. The museum is directly on top of the old foundation of an engine house. Many old trolley cars from around the nation such as the NYC subway can be seen here.

In 1777 Kingston became the first capital of New York only to be burned by the British soon after. Hurley, NY, a town near Kingston was temporarily the capital of New York. After the Revolutionary War, the capital was moved north to Albany in 1797, where can be found today.

The Crum Elbow Creek flows into the Hudson in Hyde Park, NY. The downtown section of Kingston is also called 'The Rondout' section because of its location on the Rondout.

The Kingston plant opened in 1956, included 2.4 million square feet of space and at employed over 7,000 IBM'ers. IBM closed its operations in Kingston, NY and transfered the remaining workers to Poughkeepsie, NY. Many transferred employees simply stayed in the Kingston area and make the 50 minute commute each day.
9. Which tagline is used to promote/describe the county of Ulster where Kingston is located?

Answer: Where the Catskills meet the Hudson

It is not known who first coined this term for the area but it applies well because the Catskills start about 10 to 20 miles away from the Hudson River in Ulster county. In the 1800s and early 1900's, many New York City natives would travel up the Hudson in the summer and stay at various resorts located in the Catskills such as the Catskill Mountain House to seek the cooler temperatures in the summer.
10. What was the Dutch colony name for Kingston before the British took control of the city?

Answer: Wiltwyck

At first, the name of the town was Esopus, after the Indians who lived nearby. It was later renamed Wiltwyck by the Dutch. It was one of the three large settlements in what was New Netherland (now New York). After the Dutch colony was taken over by British forces in 1664, the settlement was renamed Kingston (from Kingston-Upon-Hill in England). Beverwyck was Albany's Dutch name, and the large Rensselaerwyck area was owned by Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, which was located on both sides of the Hudson directly north of Albany, NY. Rensselaer county still exists to the east of the Hudson, and is home to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
