Over the years, we have planted various trees in the garden. We have 10 varieties of apple with most of these being turned into cider. There are pears for the heirs as well as peaches and plums . With some summer heat, olives and figs do well, if you can beat the birds to them.

With not much frost, we can manage a few sub-tropical ones like avocado and tamarillo (or tree tomato) . We also have some citrus fruit such as grapefruit , oranges and Makrut lime (or Kaffir lime) .

Nuts are not forgotten. Walnuts and hazelnuts do well, as do macadamias. We just need to get around to putting labels on them.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Familiarity with Latin names seems to go with a gardening hobby.

This describes a garden in a temperate climate with temperatures typically ranging between -3 deg C and 30 deg C. Standard European crop trees mixed with more exotic South American ones and a smattering of Asian contributions.

The Prunus family is surprising large and includes apricots, almonds, cherries and nectarines in addition to the ones mentioned in the quiz. The citrus family seems to host quite a few hybrids, meaning propagation tends to be from cuttings rather than seed in order for new plants to remain true-to-type.
