G(a)linda's surname is Upland. Elphaba's is Thropp. It's Dr. Dillamond and Madam Morrible who are at Shiz University teaching the two girls. Galinda becomes Glinda to show her support for animal rights. She then later becomes Glinda the Good, where Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.

These are lyrics from 'Wonderful' and the Wizard tells Elphaba that "Where I'm from, we believe all sorts of things that aren't true, we call it history". A man can be a traitor or liberator, a rich man could be a thief or philanthropist, and you could be either a crusader or a liberator. It's all in the opinion.
