Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the University in the beginning of the play?

Answer: Shiz

The name of the school is indeed Shiz. In fact, the second song heard in the play is titled "Dear Old Shiz." One of the actors in the play stated that "The beginning of the play starts out in a Harry-Potter-y school by the name of Shiz." The most interesting thing about the school is the uniforms the students wear, for no two are the same and they are very unique and special in their own way.
2. Dorothy is neither seen, heard, nor mentioned in "Wicked".

Answer: False

Following the intermission, there is actually talk of Dorothy. Glinda is seen waving to her as she starts off down the yellow brick road and Elphaba is seen yelling at her for crying when she locks her up in the castle. The time when Elphaba speaks to her is the only time Dorothy is ever heard.

In "Wicked", Dorothy is never actually seen, there are only people responding to her actions in the play, and her shadow is cast at one point.
3. Why did Galinda say she was changing her name to Glinda?

Answer: In honor of the disappearance of Doctor Dillamond

Glinda decided to change her name because Doctor Dillamond disappeared. The funny thing is that Doctor Dillamond could never say "Galinda" because he was a goat. From then on, whenever someone asked for her name or said her name wrong she would say, "My name is Glinda, the GA is silent."
4. Who gave Elphaba the black outfit, the pointy hat, and the black cape?

Answer: Glinda

Glinda actually gave Elphaba the entire outfit. First, she gave her the hat as a cruel joke - it was actually hers, but she hated it. Glinda also told her that "Black is the new pink" (NOTE: at the time, she was wearing a pink dress). Glinda also gave her a cape, because as she said, "It gets cold out there as you are flying around."
5. "Wicked" was actually a book before it became a musical.

Answer: True

The musical was actually a book before it hit the stage in 2003. Gregory Maguire, the writer of "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" wrote "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" in the mid-90's. Maguire expores the other side of the story in both books letting people in on the real truth about their favorite classic stories. Maguire has also stated that he loves the musical.
6. What is the "official" running time for "Wicked"?

Answer: 2-hours & 35-minutes, plus one 15-minute intermission

According to the Wicked's Time Dragon Clock at the show, the total running time for the show is 2-hours & 35-minutes, plus one 15-minute intermission. Don't worry, the show flies by and people sometimes want to see it a second and third time.
7. Who is the Wicked Witch of the East?

Answer: Nessarose

Nessarose, Elphaba's sister is the Wicked Witch of the East. Why does she wear the ruby slippers? Well, it is actually because she is handicapped and they allow her to walk. She is actually younger than Elphaba and not as green.
8. What is the Tin Man's real name before he is transformed into the Tin Man?

Answer: Boq

Boq (who actually had a crush on Galinda) was his name before he became the tin man. The most interesting thing about the tin man was that he was not just a man, he was actually a munchkin that attended the magic university, Shiz.
9. The Wicked Witch of the East dies in "Wicked".

Answer: True

Madame Morrible, the 'master' of the weather was the one who dropped the house on Nessarose. She was actually trying to get Elphaba's attention, so she decided to kill her sister. Dorothy took the ruby slippers from Nessarose's feet, which upsets Elphaba, A LOT.
10. What color sunglasses do both Glinda and Elphaba wear in the Emerald City?

Answer: Green

When they arrive in the Emerald City, they are singing the song, "One Short Day". They are both wearing round green sunglasses. There is actually a picture of the two of them in the musical booklet that can be purchased at the show. Along with them, the entire cast in the background is sporting the same glasses.
