Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Answer: Fernly Park
Fernly Park is the home of Roger Ackroyd in "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd". He was stabbed with a dagger in his study. Fernly Park is located in the village of King's Abbot with other such country houses as the Larches, where Hercule Poirot retired to, and King's Paddock, where the Ferrars once lived before their deaths.
2. Hercule Poirot's Christmas
Answer: Gorston Hall
Gorston Hall is the home of Simeon Lee in "Hercule Poirot's Christmas". He was murdered in his bedroom on Christmas Eve while the rest of the family celebrated the holiday downstairs. Gorston Hall is located in fictional Middleshire county in the town of Longdale.
3. Crooked House
Answer: Three Gables
Three Gables is the home of Aristide Leonides and his large family in "Crooked House" and was the location of his murder. It is located in the fictional London suburb of Swinly Dean. It appears Swinly Dean is located near Miss Marple's village of St. Mary Mead and Market Basing, two fictional towns that frequently appear in Christie stories.
4. They Do it with Mirrors
Answer: Stonygates
Stonygates is the home of Miss Marple's friend, Carrie Louise Serracold, and her family in "They Do it with Mirrors". Stonygates operates as a juvenile delinquency center for young offenders. It is also where Christian Guldbrandsen is murdered via gunshot. It is unknown where exactly Stonygates is located, but it is probably located in a sparsely-populated rural area of England.
5. After the Funeral
Answer: Enderby Hall
Enderby Hall was the home of Richard Abernathie in "After the Funeral". Unlike many other country houses featured in Christie novels, Enderby Hall is not home to a murder. However, Richard's sister-in-law Helen does survive an attempt on her life there. It is not known where Enderby Hall is located but it is known that it is somewhere relatively close to London and north of the city.
6. Ordeal by Innocence
Answer: Sunny Point
Sunny Point is the home of the Argyle Family in "Ordeal by Innocence". It was where Rachel Argyle was murdered years before the book began. It was also where Philip Durrant was murdered and where Tina Argyle was stabbed (but survived). Sunny Point is located in a coastal area far away from London because Rachel Argyle purchased the house to escape the London Blitz.
7. Five Little Pigs
Answer: Alderbury
Alderbury is the home of Amyas Crale in "Five Little Pigs". He was murdered on the grounds of his estate sixteen years before the novel began. Although Christie frequently used her own homes as inspiration for her literary country estates, Christie scholars consider Alderbury to be the one most accurate to her own home, Greenway. Like Greenway, Alderbury is located in Devon.
8. A Murder is Announced
Answer: Little Paddocks
Little Paddocks is the home of Letitia Blacklock in "A Murder is Announced". It is also the home of her friend Dora Bunner and lodger Phillipa Haymes. Patrick and Julia Simmons, Miss Blacklock's distant relatives, are temporarily staying there when the book begins. Little Paddocks is located in the village of Chipping Cleghorn and was where Rudi Scherz and Miss Bunner were murdered.
It is unknown where in England in Chipping Cleghorn is but it appears to be very far away from any major city.
9. Towards Zero
Answer: Gull's Point
Gull's Point is the home of Lady Tressilian in "Towards Zero" and was the site of her brutal and complicated murder. It is located in the fictional coastal village of Saltcreek, which is likely based on various coastal villages in Christie's native Devon.
10. 4.50 from Paddington
Answer: Rutherford Hall
Rutherford Hall is the home of Luther Crackenthorpe in "4.50 from Paddington", as well as his daughter Emma. Rutherford Hall is located in the fictional town of Brackhampton which is somewhere between London and St. Mary Mead. Lucy Eyelesbarrow discovers the corpse of the unknown woman, who had been strangled on a train, on the grounds of Rutherford Hall.
