Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'The Three Musketeers', who is in the lovable quartet?

Answer: Aramis, Athos, Porthos, & d'Artagnan

'The Three Musketeers' is perhaps Dumas' most famous book. It was first published in 1844, and to this day it's still a popular read. Many film adaptions have been based on the book.
2. In 'The Count of Monte Cristo' who is Edmond Dantes?

Answer: All of these

Yep, he is all of those things at various times. He was going to marry a girl named Mercedes but his rival falsely accused him of a crime he didn't commit. He became the count of Monte Cristo after finding buried treasure. Last of all, he adopted a slave girl named Haidee and treated her very kindly. Haidee loved Monte Cristo more than her own father!
3. Which book by Dumas featured Richelieu, Louis XIII, Anne of Austria and Co. but not Aramis, Porthos, Athos, and d'Artagnan?

Answer: The Red Sphinx

'The Red Sphinx' is said to be a sequel to 'The Three Musketeers', but doesn't feature our beloved quartet. The Comte de Moret (the king's brother) replaces the quartet.
4. In 'The Man in the Iron Mask', Athos, Porthos, and d'Artagnan die.

Answer: True

Porthos died in bombing, Athos died of grief, and d'Artagnan was shot in the chest. Aramis is the only survivor.
5. In which book were Marie Antoinette and Cardinal de Rohan featured?

Answer: The Queen's Necklace

It's about a scandal involving the Monarchy of France and the purchase of an expensive necklace. In the beginning, M. de Richelieu and his dinner guests experiment with a potion that is said to make old people young again.
6. Which of these books features the musketeers?

Answer: The Vicomte de Bragelonne

It's a lesser known part of 'The d'Artagnan Romances'. The Vicomte de Bragelonne (Raoul) is the illegitimate son of Athos. While the quartet ages, Raoul takes on all the action.
7. Is Louise de la Valliere the king's mistress? This refers to the book 'Louise de la Valliere'.

Answer: Yes

Raoul de Bragelonne loved Louise and he was engaged to marry her. The king took her away from him, so Raoul committed suicide.
8. Did d'Artagnan ever get married?

Answer: No

Constance Bonacieux was the only woman he ever loved. She died at the end of 'The Three Musketeers'. Constance was killed by Milady, d'Artagnan's bitterest enemy.
9. What is the second book in 'The d'Artagnan Romances'?

Answer: Twenty Years After

It is almost as well-known as the first book. The quartet has aged 20 years but despite that, they are just as active as ever.
10. One for All, All for One! Which book is famous for this motto?

Answer: The Three Musketeers

Their famous motto should be everyone's motto. It basically means that one person will give his life for the rest if needed, and everyone will give their lives for one person.
