Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Episode 1 "Athos, Porthos, Aramis & D'Artagnan" - What did D'Artagnan say that made Porthos even more mad after D'Artagnan embarrassed him?

Answer: "If you come later than 1:00, I'll cut your ears off."

After he hurt Athos's already-wounded shoulder and got his first duel arranged, headstrong D'Artagnan was still determined to catch Aramis, whom he had mistaken for Rochefort. He jumped over a banister, and accidentally pulled Porthos's cape off, who was showing off his fancy new baldric.

The cape concealed the back of the baldric, which was plain, and embarrassed Porthos. Thus, D'Artagnan now had a second duel arranged. They agreed on 1:00, and D'Artagnan said "If you come later than 1:00, I'll cut your ears off.", copycating what Athos told him earlier. That made Porthos REALLY angry. To conclude this scene, D'Artagnan caught Aramis, realized it was the wrong man, and got himself a third duel.
2. Episode 1 "Athos, Porthos, Aramis & D'Artagnan" - D'Artagnan defeated De Jussac (one of the Cardinal's Guards) in a duel.

Answer: True

Referring back to an earlier scene, Athos and D'Artagnan were just beginning their duel when the Cardinal's Guards, led by De Jussac, came. The musketeers and D'Artagnan decided to duel with the Guards instead. D'Artagnan and De Jussac were dueling together.

They began the duel at the same time Athos, Porthos, and Aramis started their duels, but kept at it long after Athos, Porthos, and Aramis were done. D'Artagnan won the duel and asked for De Jussac's sword. De Jussac refused to give it up and instead broke it over his knee.
3. Episode 1 "Athos, Porthos, Aramis & D'Artagnan" - Aramis sang an insanely charming song. Which of these is NOT a lyric?

Answer: I don't know what made me kill

"Lord, do you see this body [referring to a slain guard]? The body of a scoundrel and a slanderer, not one of your better creations [referring to a statue of a crucified Jesus]"

I daresay it doesn't sound so charming written down. But when he sings it, oh! delights of paradise! Aramis sang it after D'Artagnan and his friends Athos and Porthos were all finished dueling. After the completion of the song, the three musketeers decided to take young D'Artagnan under their wings. In other words, become his friends.
4. Episode 1 "Athos, Porthos, Aramis & D'Artagnan" - How many pistoles did King Louis give D'Artagnan?

Answer: Forty

King Louis gave them to D'Artagnan as a present for his loyalty, during the duel with De Jussac and Richelieu's minions. The series never revealed what he did with the money, though.
5. Episode 1 "Athos, Porthos, Aramis & D'Artagnan" - When rescuing Constance (his landlord's wife), D'Artagnan shaved a man's hair off.

Answer: True

I know, it's pretty hard to believe. D'Artagnan lived on the second floor, while Constance lived on the first floor, so D'Artagnan had to break up his floorboards (Constance's ceiling) to see what was going on. True to the book, he broke up his floorboards and spied on the scenario.

The Cardinal hired two men to kidnap Constance because she had information regarding the Queen. Not true to the book, D'Artagnan used the hole to pour water on a man's head. The man stuck his head in the hole to see who was up there, and, well, D'Artagnan shaved his hair off.

The other man's reaction always makes me laugh. "I like it!", then the bald man said "Idiot! There's a madman upstairs!". D'Artagnan rushed down, beat the kidnappers up, and fell in love with Constance after rescuing her.
6. Episode 2 "The Queen's Diamond Studs" - The episode began with the Queen and Buckingham singing a charming duet together. Which of these *is* a lyric?

Answer: I didn't say yes, my lord

Buckingham was so desperately in love with Anne that he would do anything she asked. They sang a duet, which featured Buckingham trying to get Anne to admit she loved him, and Anne protesting the opposite. "'Without me, aren't your days so long and dull?' 'I didn't say yes, my lord.' 'You never said no.'" However, we can come to the conclusion that she felt something for him, because she gave him a valuable gift.
7. Episode 2 "The Queen's Diamond Studs" - Monsieur Bonacieux knew that his wife Constance, and D'Artagnan were having a love affair.

Answer: True

Right after they (Constance and D'Artagnan) professed love for each other, Monsieur Bonacieux woke up from his slumber and witnessed them dancing and kissing. He didn't let the lovers know he knew, but instead reported it all to Cardinal Richelieu.
8. Episode 2 "The Queen's Diamond Studs" - Select the correct order in which each musketeer stayed behind to ward off enemies when they were going to London with D'Artagnan.

Answer: Porthos, Aramis, Athos

Richelieu sent guards to hold the musketeers up. Porthos held back the first group, with his incredible strength. Aramis held up the second group, by shouting religious things and hypnotizing them. Athos and D'Artagnan went to refresh themselves at a tavern, where the bartender falsely accused them of paying with counterfeit money.

A group of guards were there, and promptly started attacking. Athos held them back.
9. Episode 2 "The Queen's Diamond Studs" - When he arrived back in Paris, which woman did D'Artagnan mistake for Constance?

Answer: Queen Anne

Being exhausted from his trip, D'Artagnan fell asleep on the floor after smooching with Constance. Queen Anne came to thank him for his service, and saw he was sleeping. She touched his cheek with her handkerchief, hoping he'd wake up. Wake up he did, and also mistook her for Constance; he picked her up in his arms and started being lovey-dovey.

When he found out his mistake...haha! The thing is, Anne wasn't the least bit mad at D'Artagnan.
10. Episode 2 "The Queen's Diamond Studs" - Cardinal Richelieu sent which of his agents to arrest Constance?

Answer: Milady

Cardinal Richelieu knew of Constance's whereabouts, at a convent in Bethune, and sent Milady to arrest her. Milady was unable to persuade Constance to go with her so she poisoned her instead. Ever tragically and romantically, Constance died in D'Artagnan's arms, with Athos confirming the poison.
11. Episode 3 "The Adventures Continue" - What did M. de Treville say to D'Artagnan about being a musketeer?

Answer: You'll see, being a musketeer isn't that bad

D'Artagnan was depressed about Constance's death, and Monsieur de Treville assumed he was depressed about his new position as a musketeer (really, that's a pretty dumb assumption because it was D'Artagnan's biggest dream to be a musketeer). In an attempt to cheer him up, M. de Treville said "You'll see, being a musketeer isn't that bad."
12. Episode 3 "The Adventures Continue" - How many lois (a unit of currency) did Milady pay two men to assassinate D'Artagnan?

Answer: 100

The bullets missed D'Artagnan, and he killed one assassin and let the other go free. When D'Artagnan heard the amount she paid, he said "She must value my life a lot."
13. Episode 3 "The Adventures Continue" - Athos sang a song with the lyrics "In the count's park, there is a black pond. Lilies bloom there". What was he referring to?

Answer: His ex-wife has a fleur-de-lis (lily flower) branded on her shoulder

He told the tale of his past, and failed, marriage to Milady, in song form. The reason it failed is because Milady was a criminal, as proven by that fleur-de-lis, the brand of France.
14. Episode 3 "The Adventures Continue" - Which of the musketeers got the position of Lieutenant of the Musketeers?

Answer: D'Artagnan

Cardinal Richelieu offered it to the three musketeers before giving it to D'Artagnan.

Athos's response: "Thank you, Your Eminence, but for Athos it's too much, and for Count de La Fere it's too little."

Porthos's reply: "That would flatter me, Your Eminence, but while we were away, Mr. Coquenard died. After the victory at La Rochelle, I am leaving service to marry his widow."

Aramis's: "I am most grateful, Your Eminence, but our recent adventures have disgusted me with military life, and after the siege of La Rochelle, I am joining the brotherhood."

The musketeers then unanimously agreed that D'Artagnan was the most deserving of the honor.
15. Episode 3 "The Adventures Continue" - At the end of the episode, which of their catchy songs did they sing?

Answer: The 'Friendship' song ("When your friend is bleeding....")

That song had the theme of, well, something unfortunate happening, and friends always being there for you. The musketeers had just discussed their life plans, and it seemed they would never see each other again. Aramis was becoming a monk, Porthos was getting married, and Athos was retiring. So they sung their song for the last time, until twenty years later!
