Lisbeth is on the island of Grenada when the storm hits. During a heroic rescue on the beach during the storm, she sees a tornado rise up out of the hurricane which she knows should be impossible. We learn later that experts decided to call it a pseudo-tornado, something that looked like a tornado but isn't.

Dag and Mia are a couple and are killed in their home. Mikael finds them when he stops by to pick up something for the magazine. Lisbeth's prints are found on a gun at the scene; also, a convenience store clerk recalls having sold her cigarettes shortly before the murders and she becomes the prime suspect. Bjurman's body is found several days later by police investigators.
