Lisbeth is deemed "incompetent" due to a mental illness that is not completely defined. There was a tragedy in her teenage years that led to her psychiatric hospitalization and appointment of a guardian. Her current guardian is Nils Bjurman. Her relationship with Bjurman shows us that Lisbeth can take care of herself.
