ALICE was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no or conversations in it, "and what is the use of a book," thought Alice, "without pictures or ?" So she was considering in her own mind, (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very and stupid,) whether the pleasure of making a daisy-chain would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the , when suddenly a white with pink eyes ran close by her. There was nothing so very remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way to hear the Rabbit say to itself, "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too !" (when she thought it over afterwards, it occurred to her that she ought to have wondered at this, but at the time it all seemed quite natural); but when the Rabbit actually took a out of its -pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waist coat-pocket or a watch to take out of it, and, with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the . In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again. The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down what seemed to be a very deep well.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898) was a mathematician who wrote poetry and children's stories under the name Lewis Carroll. His most famous works were this "Alice in Wonderland" and the sequel "Through the Looking Glass".
According to Caroll's diary, he invented a children's fantasy story for Alice Liddell, the ten-year-old daughter of one of his friends. Alice then asked to write it down, which he did - and he added some more chapters.
The waistcoat that the white rabbit wore, was at that time part of the fancy dress code for adult men: a white shirt with tie, trousers, a waistcoat (jacket without sleeves and to be buttoned up all the way) and jacket (of which at least one button has to be undone). The jacket, waistcoat and trousers would all be of the same fabric and colour. Up till the second World War, men used to carry a pocket watch attached with a chain to their waistcoat pockets - wristwatches became only popular afterwards.
"Alice in Wonderland" starts with a familiar scene: a bored young girl, on the brink of dozing off. And then the fantasy sets in.
When Alice tumbled down the rabbit hole, she found the entrance to Wonderland - a fantasy world with medieval appearance, talking animals and various magical events. The logicality in Wonderland did not correspond to what's logical in the real world.
During her stay in Wonderland, Alice met many curious characters such as the smoking caterpillar, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts who played croquet with hedgehogs as balls and flamingos as mallets, the Cheshire cat...
