Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Merean Redhill and Jarna Malari both appear in 'New Spring'. Merean is the Mistress of Novices, who appears in 'New Spring'. She is revealed to be a Darkfriend and kills a little boy and his father, and a young Malkieri girl, by throwing them off a balcony. Moiraine kills her while shielded. Jarna was a Grey sister and the leader of the Black Ajah, who ordered the torture of the then Amyrlin, Tamra Ospenya. She wanted to kill the Dragon Reborn, but Ishamael disagreed with her and forced her to enter a ter'angreal of unknown power as punishment. She was trapped inside for ten days and ultimately died.
Liandrin Guirale is a Red sister from Tarabon who is one of the first Black Ajah encountered in the series. She sells Egwene al'Vere into slavery at the hands of the Seanchan, and later escapes the White Tower, along with twelve other Black sisters. When Egwene, Nynaeve al'Meara and Elayne Trakand go to Tear to capture them, Liandrin has them beaten and thrown into the Stone of Tear, before the gang head off to Tanchico, and then Amadicia, where they are working with Moghedien of the Forsaken. Liandrin tries to attack Moghedien while she is injured and Moghedien punishes her by cutting her off from the One Power. She is captured by Suroth, a Seanchan Darkfriend to whom she sold Egwene, and made into a slave.
Duhara Basaheen is a Domani Red sister who was the Keeper of the Chronicles for Amyrlin Sierin Vayu, and had a reputation for being mean. She participated in the pogrom of male channellers known as the Vileness, and was also part of Elaida do'Avriny a'Roihan's faction during the White Tower coup. Elaida sends her to Caemlyn to be Elayne's advisor, but Elayne sends her away as Duhara refuses to accept her as a full sister. She is killed by Aviendha in the Last Battle.
Alviarin Friedhen is a White sister from Amadicia, and Elaida's Keeper of the Chronicles, and also secretly the leader of the Black Ajah, taking orders from Mesaana herself. She took over the job from Jarna. Elaida gives her the sack and replaces her with Tarna Feir. Alviarin fights in the Last Battle, but is detained in an Ogier stedding.
Galina Casban is leader of the Red Ajah and a member of the Black Ajah High Council during Siuan Sanche's reign, and leads a delegation of sisters to kidnap Rand al'Thor and take him to the White Tower. They stuff Rand into a box and torture him, and when he is freed at the Battle of Dumai's Wells, Galina is captured by the Shaido Aiel. She is enslaved by Therava, a Shaido Wise One, and forced to swear loyalty to her.
Talene Minly is an Andoran Green Sitter who is captured by a group of Sitters and interrogated after she refuses to re-swear the Three Oaths, though she manages to escape the White Tower before the Battle of Tar Valon. She is one of the Sitters who supported Elaida's coup.
Careane Fransi is a Green sister from Arad Domain who is one of the rebels, and murders both Adeleas Namelle and Ispan Shefar, a fellow Darkfriend, at the Kin's farm by drugging them with crimsonthorn tea and killing them with the Power. Vandene, Adeleas' sister, kills her in revenge.
Delana Mosalaine is a Grey sister from Shienar who is camped among the rebels in Salidar and is secretly collaborating with the Forsaken Aran'gar. She is killed, along with Aran'gar, when Rand attacks Natrin's Barrow with balefire, killing everyone inside (except Graendal, his intended target, who escapes).
Sheriam Bayanar is a Blue sister and the Mistress of Novices during Siuan Sanche's reign, but defects to Salidar with the rebel Aes Sedai. She oversees Nynaeve and Egwene's Accepted tests. Egwene appoints her as Keeper of the Chronicles, only to discover via Verin Mathwin's notes that Sheriam is Black Ajah, and is forced to have her stilled and executed. Mesaana had forced Sheriam to steal ter'angreal for her, on pain of losing her fingers.
Moria Karentanis is a Blue sister from Illian who is part of the rebel faction. Her name is on Verin's list of Black Ajah members. She tries to flee the Hall after Sheriam is outed as Black Ajah, but is captured, and later stilled and executed.
Falion Bhoda and Temaile Kinderode are members of a group of thirteen Black sisters led by Liandrin who flee the White Tower and head to Tear, than Tanchico, then Amadicia. Falion is Kandori and formerly of the White Ajah, while Temaile is Cairhenin and formerly a Grey. Falion is cold and rational, while Temaile is a sadist who enjoys torturing people, as shown with the Panarch of Tarabon. Falion is sold to Doilin Mellar as a sex slave and dies in the Last Battle, and Temaile is murdered by Mellar in a jail cell.
While Elaida and Faolain are unpleasant people, and Elaida is downright cruel at times, neither of them are Black Ajah; they are Reds, as is Teslyn, an Illianer, and Silviana, who is from Amadicia. Elaida, who is from Murandy, is the third of three Amyrlins from the Red Ajah (Tetsuan and Bonwhin Meraighdin being the previous two) and, like them, she did a very bad job of it. Silviana is her Mistress of Novices and is tasked with giving Egwene al'Vere her daily beating when Egwene is captured and returned to the Tower. After Elaida is taken damane by the Seanchan invaders and Egwene replaces her, she makes Silviana her Keeper of the Chronicles, because Silviana stuck to her principles. Teslyn was briefly taken damane while on an assignment in Ebou Dar with Joline Maza, a Green sister, but is rescued by Mat Cauthon.
As for the non-Reds, Alanna Mosvani is an Arafellin Green sister who forcibly bonded Rand, much to his and others' disgust. She is killed by Moridin in the Last Battle. Samitsu is a Yellow sister from Arafel who heals Rand, along with fellow Yellow Corele Hovian and Asha'man Damer Flinn, after Padan Fain stabs him with the cursed dagger. Nicola is a Ghealdanin Accepted in the rebel camp at Salidar, who Elayne and Nynaeve meet while travelling to Salidar. She has the Foretelling, like Elaida, and betrays Egwene to Elaida's faction in the hope of moving up the White Tower ladder; however, she never becomes a full Aes Sedai as she is killed in the battle with Mesaana and the Black sisters in Tel'aran'rhiod.
